God I hate my job (small rant)

Not because it sucks, not because of long hours, and not because I work across the street from a nut house. It's because the company has cut our budget and now I'm getting cut hours, why you ask? Because people come in and completely rip off our electronics section and just walk out. I cannot do a thing, all I can say is "hey, you please stop" I can't chase them down, I can't do a damn thing. Even if I call a manager there's nothing he can do, all he can do is tell them to stop and if they do he can take them into the office and call the cops. We want to lock up these items but because the company doesn't want to there is nothing we can do about it. The police station is right down the road even though it takes them more then 2 minutes to get to us...

Cliffs:
/ Job sucks
// Theirs are the scum of the earth
/// the parent company are morons

Anyone else hate their jobs?

When I made a thread like this, I got comments such as.... "Cry more n00b!"

I, on the other hand, feel your pain.

They walk in, look as if they are shopping and wait for us to get busy up front then promptly put everything under their coats and run out. This varies from what we have, DVD players, MP3 players, whatever.

We had a guy a few weeks ago come in with some HUGE pants and stuffed a few DVD players, and a few random items in his pants and tried to walk out but didn't make it past the door because a police officer was shopping and I pointed him out. That's about the only luck we have had is if an officer is in our store.

Mine sucks too. I am in charge of what our unit does. I have people who don't/won't (one has said that the more we want him to do the less he will do and we can't do anything about it) perform but have to go through my supervisor for disciplinary action. He told me to lower my standards. He just doesn't want to deal with the issues. Sure makes my job easier.
15 more years and I am out of there.

Why not just put a guy at the door to check people's receipts as they leave?
fry's does that and it is legally your option to say no thanks and keep walking which is what i do.

If there is a line, I just walk around it and out the door with my purchases. If there is no line, I let them check.

Nope. I left a job that I did hate and came back to my old job which I love for a large pay increase. Worked out really well. Go find a job that you like. Having a job that you hate makes life miserable.

So, um where do you work😛
Any retail store. It's ridiculous how easy it is to take from these places, and even more ridiculous how much people actually take, though they could get away with far more

I used to be the Assistant Manager at a Claires store and we used to have major shoplifting problems. The only "security" that those stores have are all the mirrors on the walls. They dont help...lol...especially when its christmas time and your store is jam-packed full of customers doing their christmas shopping, youre always stuck at the register and cant look at the mirrors. Although in our case, if you did catch somebody shoplifting, you had to know EXACTLY where they put the item(s). Which pocket and everything. That can get confusing cuz everything is backwards in a mirror. And if you were possitively certain of where the item(s) were and they left the store, than you could follow them out and ask them to come back into the store so you can talk to them, have them empty their pockets, etc. But if they took off you simply called mall security. At inventory time (which sucks in a store like that) if everything didnt match up, than you just wouldnt get your bonus.....it sucks that your hours are getting cut for something that is really out of your control.

Today we had 2 people cover the entire day. That's all the budget allows for. My co-worker worked from 8-4:30 then I worked 1:30-10 PM. Managers work almost those same hours. There's not way we can check everyone's receipts, and it's not like they walk in with bags, fill em up and walk out, they simply hide them under their coats and run.

I'm not gonna tell you where I work guys, but I'll tell you that it's store with a pharmacy (DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN). Almost any retail store goes by these rules.

I did get to talk to my manager, he said that if they came back in I had permission to clock out, take off my shirt and tackle the guys until the cops came. (the shirt has to come off because it has the company name). He also added I should tell out "CITIZENS ARREST" while doing all of this.

edit: Ive been looking for a new job but it's REALLY hard when you are settled and I have job security.

You need a cool red button at the front counter that closes all the doors, locks them, alerts the police, and turns on alarms/flashing lights.

It's against the law to lock anyone in any store, I already asked for that.
