I hear ya man. I dont know how tech support phone guys handle it all day. I am sure they are relieved when they get a call from one of us and they can actually talk to us with some tech talk. (Only if they are good tech support...the ones that dont know jack about computers and only read off cards prob hate us more).
I personally cant stand helping people that dont know jack on the phone. In person its ok since you can just show them and do it quick but on the phone they just dont get it. You can tell him to click here, then here, then here, but nooo its too much for them. They ask what is going on and you try to explain to them in the most logically way possible but even that seems above their head.
This ALL being said I work in tech support at my college and this is my favorite so far:
After installing a 19" flat screen for someone that works at the college she says "Oh great, its bigger so now I can see more". I was like no not really it...you only see the same amount of stuff...just blown up more. If you want to see more you can change the resolution" So I did....and then she said " No I want it bigger so i can see more" I was like..wtf...and said"its smaller..so you can see more on one screen"...she didnt get it so i just changed it back and left.
Oh and there was the time that a person put a floppy disk cleaner in the wrong way....I still dont get this. THE BRUSHES ARE POINTING THE WAY YOU PUSH IT IN. What good our brushes going to be pointing out of the box? Of course it got stuck.
