Just when you thought the History Channel (and/or the general Discovery/History/TLC/ect umbrella) could not get worse...I just heard an ad for this in the background.

...yeah, I confess, I was watching this dumb channel. American Pickers, American Restoration, and any other associated 'Antiques Roadshow for Dummies' type show does make decent background noise for when I'm doing something else but just don't feel like sitting in silence.

But I draw the line at the car shows. And the gun shows. And the aliens and/or god shows. And hillbillies.

Hence me being utterly astounded to hear what sounds like 'let's take all our dumbest stuff, and just combine it! We won't even give it a real title!'

It's kinda like a porno just being called 'Dicks, Cunts, and Ejaculations.' I know, I know...'would watch.'

I rarely watch the History channel now. The Discovery Channel still has some BBC special once in a while that's worth watching.

Science airs the BBC stuff with Brian Cox (physicist, usually of astro- variety), which is always quite good. I'm not big on the animal stuff, but that's all British, too.

Us Americans are terrible at 'learning' programs.

I miss the days when it was the hitler channel, at least it then showed history.

Maybe it's based on the novel "Guns, Germs, and Steel", but it only refers to American history instead of world history.

The History Channel might be the worst network on TV now. I remember a day when 90% of the TV I watched was THC and The Discovery Channel, they were actual history and actual science. Now Mythbusters is the only thing worth watching on TDC and I'd rather watch Mexican soap operas than The History Channel.

I always remember it as the war channel. All (US) history consisted of nothing but wars. It used to be at least somewhat informative drek, but now it's just mindless drek.

I got rid of my tv a couple of years ago and haven't regretted that decision one bit. Whenever I find myself in front of a tv these days, I spend 20 - 30 mins flipping through the channels and realize there's absolutely nothing to watch. It's just 30 minutes of thumb exercise.

There isn't any learning on The Learning Channel, there isn't any history on The History Channel, and by god unless you want to discover how gullible the average American is, they are quickly getting rid of all of the discovery on The Discovery Channel.

At least The Weather Channel sticks to weather.

Why do you care what type of gun he uses for home defense? Oh, that's right, you've bought into the propaganda.

You may want to study TWC tv schedule a bit more before allowing it that pass.

You've bought into the dumb.

Good to know that if someone breaks into your house, your first reaction is to deafen yourself and shoot your neighbor.

Handgun/shotgun. Rifles are silly for that application.

AR-15 is great for home defense, I don't see an AK being much worse.

Well given the application you'd do better comparing the ammunition, in which case the AK would be worse due it's larger projectiles refusing to stop or fly apart first time they hit something (assuming we're talking about 7.62x39 and not 5.45x39 anyway)

Yeah I've been without TV for quite sometime now, and don't really miss it. History and Discovery have become hollow shells of what they should have been. History Channel in particular jumped the shark awhile ago. It now relates to actual history the way MTV does to music. If they could just ditch all the Hitler and Jesus crap it would be an improvement, although probably not enough for me to go back to paying for a hundred channels so I can watch 3 or 4 non-sport related ones.

For some reason, Alaska is the State to shoot reality shows for these channels. Mostly about people catching crab, building outhouses, herding cattle, killing chickens.

That way there aren't any witnesses to see that it's all fake.:p

I don't watch TV any more except what I find on Netflix, but, I do enjoy Top Shot on History Channel. It streamed from their website.

Animal planet used to be about nature. Now it has more ghost shows than nature. History channel used to talk about history. Now it's just another damn reality TV channel. Discovery channel used to be about science. Now it's just another damn reality TV channel.
