This is at the same time hilarious and extremely satisfying to read. As far as I'm concerned they can eat shit, elections have consequences.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Farmers across the United States will soon begin receiving government checks as part of a billion-dollar bailout to buoy growers experiencing financial strain from President Donald Trump’s trade disputes with China.

But even those poised for big payouts worry it won’t be enough. And while support for Trump is near unwavering in the heartland, some growers say that with the November election nearing, such disappointing aid outcomes could potentially affect their vote.

I agree, them and the MIC are the worst

Well the MIC is basically giant corporations and their goals are pretty transparent, they're expected to act like that.

Farmers on the other hand appear to be huge hypocrites. Welfare for me but not for thee.

And this is coming from someone who believes that subsidies are required for national food security, it's the attitude, idiocy and hypocrisy of these farmers that I take issue with.

Farmers wouldn't be receiving these subsidies if Trump hadn't started a trade war with China. The proper term isn't farming, anyway, but rather agribusiness.

If Wall street gets welfare, Chinese subsidize their business to break the back of the competition, why is it evil all of the sudden for American Farmers to receive handouts unless you want to see agriculture business suffer because you like to feel good by sticking it to the other political side, in effect cutting off America's nose in order to spite the Republicans face.

Because they shot themselves in the dick when they elected the orange orangutan.

Kind of like the suicide that flubs it and gets SSI disability checks forever.

If you bothered reading I'm in no way against farming subsidies, I believe they are a necessary evil.

BUT.

1) this is about agriculture exports getting subsidized not produce meant for internal consumption.

2) they voted for this overwhelmingly and they hate anyone else getting welfare, they can eat shit.

There is a lot of concern that the market share loss is now permanent. Even if tariffs were lifted tomorrow the Chinese buyers are gone. It could take years or decades to find and open new markets for the products.

A good example is soy. The big reason Brazil produces a lot of soy is that US protectionism in the early 70s limited soy exports to Japan. Japan went to Brazil and helped them setup industrial agriculture in order to diversify supply of the product. The Japanese market for US soy has never really recovered and Brazil is the 2nd largest soy producer close behind us.

Where have you been for past 80 years? American farmers live on subsidies, handouts, taxbreaks, and welfare. So far, the urbanites think it's a reasonable trade for a stable food supply. If urbanites bothered to look under the hood, they might find that they've been ripped off, wholesale.

They're probably going to buy lobster dinners, iPhones, and LCD TVs!

I saw a farmer driving a Cadillac as they used their welfare to buy those lobsters, iPhones, and big screen TVs. Something just ain't right I tell ya.

I guess the Repubs are fine with socialism when it suits them.

These subsidies will go out to large scale agribusiness. In the US, farming is concentrated mainly in a small number of very large "family businesses." Anything going out to them only goes to their workers on the trickle down theory. So it's only socialism if you count corporate welfare as socialism.

If?

American farmers over produce and expect everyone else on the planet to solve their problem.
