I currently have Scamcast and am paying $56.99 for 3mbit/384k. Surewest just recently installed their fiber optic lines through our neighborhood and is offering 10mbit/10mbit for $49.99!!!

They will be coming next Tuesday to install it
:D

HA!

i live in arcade(watt and el camino) surewest is in our neighborhood but no way am i getting them. they have a 40gig(id burn thru that fast) cap per month  and i read a bunch of reports that talked about ICMP packet loss which screws VoIP. not to mention you need to pay them to put up a network in your house(what asshats), thats plus the cap = no thanks.

"They would tell you it's them and their blocking of ICMP or (ping). They are screwing every customer out there and not telling them. If you do a line quality test you will find out that the quality test produces failing results in EVERY category. I get a 100% packet loss. That?s ungodly."

My parents pay $39.95 per month for 768/128. :p Small town telco monopolies are really holding back broadband popularity.

Please get some facts straights.

You DO NOT need to pay them to install network in the house. It is an OPTION for people who are not tech savvy. Basically, it works the same as cable and DSL so all you need is a router. I talked to them and they said I should be able to get it up with no problems.

The thread you mentioned: Seems like A LOT of people are happier than dissatisfied. Besides, they are giving me 30 days to try it out.

WTF? They're in Elk Grove but not Davis? Elk Grove is full of rednecks who don't even know what "mbit" means.

<-- Using crappy SBC DSL in Davis.

right, soon as i saw this on their website:
"Residential 10 MB $49.95 (Without Bundling Discount)
10 Mbps of Internet Access
* Up to 10 Mbps, burstable, always-on, equal upload/download connection
* Up to 40 Gigabytes of unidirectional throughput monthly, calculated on inbound or outbound usage, whichever is higher
* One IP address included"

i knew i didnt want it. no way is he hosting any server with a 40 gig cap. then i read about ICMP packet loss which means no VoIP (100% packet loss = teh suck). so i wouldnt be able to drop land line all together and go fiber (god i wish i could)

i also saw"
" Home networking from SureWest is only $12.50 per month, in addition to your Internet service fee."

but never called the number to follow up, i just automatically equated it with the way SBC is charging for more then one computer using the connection (SBC = biggist asshats of all). he says thats only if you want surewest to come out and set it up but.. why would they charge monthly for a one time thing? who knows tho.

i hope to god he gets it, comes back and proves all of this wrong (networking, packet loss) then it might be worth it with the cable tv offer(i would still need dsl for setting up a server tho)
