Goal: 3.5 from a 2.8c am I aiming too high?

Okay Running DDR 333 (2 sticks of 512 MB) ram at 2-2-2-6 timings (I DON'T have the money to beable to afford to change it),

with a Abit IC7 mobo, a 2.8C, SLK-900U w/smartfan 2 (if I can find it I'll look for the sp-94)

Now The price diffrence between the 2.8c and 2.6c is like 50 bucks canadian.

My goal is JUST to have it running at 3500mhz STABLE and Reliable. I was going to do the 3.0C but since I have to run the divider at 3:2 the 2.8c is the better and would be faster at 3.5 ghz. The store I shop at should have the M0 steppings in when I am ready to purchase 2-3 weeks from now.

So is this setup good? DON'T suggest I buy new ram, YES I have the money, but I'd rather go make my car faster, house nicer, get new weights, dvds etc... than my computer 2-5% faster in some applications...as you can tell I don't wish to spend anymore money...if I HAD to go out and buy DDR400 ram, I'd much rather sink it into a Athlon 64 3200+ for the same price and keep my current ram.

Yea I was planning too...cept...my case is RIGHT beside me and yea that thing sounds like a vaccum cleaner...

Well, I think 3.5G is hard to get for 2.8C, CPU itself. 2.8C is not a great OCer, you know. (Even sometimes, it's worse than 2.6C or 2.4C. While 2.4C and 2.6C reach 3.4, 2.8C has been very hard to reach even 3.3G)

Well, Good luck

3.5ghz from 2.8c is a pretty high goal. if anything i think you should make 3.2ghz your highest goal and then see how much higher you can go. i have a 2.6c and i thought i would be able to get 3.0ghz easy with a 1:1 ratio, using geil 3500 ultra platinum 2x256. the highest i can go without surpassing 1.6vcore is 2.8ghz. so im running 215fsb right now. i can get 3.0ghz with a 5:4 ratio, but compared to 2.8ghz with a 1:1, its alot slower. im disappointed with my oc result, a whopping 200mhz. but you cant expect too much when overclocking, ill take the extra 200mhz anyday.

I feel for ya, Batmang. I have a similar setup to yours (IS7, 2x256 HyperX PC3500 CL2, stock cooling...for now) & get similar results. It's presently at a 3:2 ratio @ 3 gig, but I don't think I got a good chip & I ain't too sure about the memory.

I took my 2.8C up to 3.5 and that was about the threshold of stability. I took it down to 3.42 and it's been rock solid.

3.4-3.5 on air is about the limit of the current crop of Northwoods. (whether they're 2.4's or 3.2's).
