"Go To New Message"

I've used many other forum packages and have always seen a "link to new post" upon logging in or refreshing the page.

Why doesn't FuseTalk have this feature? It's annoying having to always scroll to the bottom of a thread when noticing a new post was made.

It may be included but turned off for this site. They had the 'view count' for each thread turned off for a long time until enough people asked for it.

Nope. That would be extremely valuable here considering the length of some of the threads.

exactly what i was thinking. Anyone know any further info?

Can you elaborate on the feature desired, we're actually in the throws of 2.5. Honestly this is the first time anyone has asked for it... there are a wack load of neat things we're already doing but if this is desired by many its a possibility.

The specific implementation that I'm aware of is the feature where when one clicks on a link to a thread in a thread subscription update email, one is automatically directed to the first new post made in the thread since the last time one visited the forum. While we're at it, I'll throw in a plug for a feature that only sends you one subscription update for a new post, and refrains from sending you any more subscription updates for that particular thread until you've logged in again. 🙂

no no no... you don't have to be subscribed to a thread for this to work. It all has to do with the board cookies.

Picture this: browsing Off Topic and beside each thread that new posts are posted in (since your last visit or since your last refresh) a small indicator icon appears telling you that new posts are in the thread. you can then click the little icon (instead of the thread title) through which it automatically goes to the first unread post within the specified thread (instead of starting you at the top of the thread with the original post).

this is a feature I see on all Invision Power Board forums (including my own) but do not know if it's something that is available through Fusetalk. I just think the feature is very valuable considering the length of many of the threads.

We'll noodle it, that works fine for little installs that those freebie boards power. The problem is when you have installs that FuseTalk runs where there are 150 boards running at the same time, users viewing diff boards. Only so many cookies allowed and size restrictions on cookies...

1. 20 cookies per domain
2. 300 cookies per browser (might have changed lately)
3. 4KB cookie size.

We'll noodle it though.

I'd have to think there is a way to do it with the larger-sized boards.. if not by the way I mentioned above, through some other means.

Noodle away!
