Go Ti4400 or Not to Go Ti4400 - That is the question

Heres my game rig specs atm, tell me what yah think.

P4 1.7(Socket 423)
Asus P4T
512 PC800
GeForce3(original)

Think I should upgrade Video with Ti4400 or go for Asus P4T-E and a 1.6A and overlock. I havnt been able to find any Reveiws of the Ti4400 online, even though Ive seen them everywhere, and how they compare to the 4600. So if you have a link to a 4400 review, id appriciate it.

Sounds like you've got a nice system, why bother upgrading the CPU/MB/Video? I doubt anything out there will run noticably faster. I'd just save my money for something else down the road, or some other kind of accessory.

All due respect, but I can do what I want with my money. Its not like the old parts wont go unused...I have a friend that could sure use a new CPU/MOBO or G3.

We never were saying you didn't have the final say. You were just asking for advice, and we gave it. You never mentioned that you did have a need for a 2nd CPU/Mobo combo. If that's the case I would say go for it.

Then go do it and quit asking for advice. Jeez.

<< Premature upgradulation. It's too early for you to upgrade. Wait longer. >>

gotta love how it's almost become a science to upgrade @ the right time to get the most for your $$$. The general rule of thumb is that 2nd rate is the best price/performance. So once something new comes out, buy the old stuff everyone is selling off when they get the new ones. Actually now that I think about it I think my whole system is in this state right now (used parts from AT FS/FT), oh wait, one of my monitors is new 🙂.

<< Premature upgradulation. >>

i've got something to talk about around the water cooler now.... don't let the chicks hear about this....😛

i'd say pimp the P4, mobo and video card..... that at least cover the new CPU and MOBO(P4 1.6 and P4T-E) then you can have some overclocking the snot out of it...... and then can drop some stupid cash on a ti4600!

Sorry, didnt mean to sound snappy.

Unless your friend is in dire need for a computer, try upgrading something else. Take that money and put it towards a good 21" monitor or some speakers. You could get some Klipsch 5.1's or even soemthing better if you look at the reviews. Maybe even save it towards a high end LCD. (I want the black NEC 18.1" they just got at Best Buy. Just have to talk my roommate into using his employee discount.)

If you really want the card then by all means guy it. I just ordered a Visiontek GF4 Ti 4400 myself and I too have a GF3 (original). Do you need a GF4? No but from the reviews I've seen (none of the just the 4400 but they've included it in the tests) it's only slightly slower than the 4600, plus it's $100 less. I ordered mine at http://www.micropro.com/list.htm?product=Video Cards&sub=VisionTek&order=brand and I go to www.pricewatch.com for the lowest computer prices in the country that I've found. The GF4 Ti 4400 is listed at $275 and with shipping; the total was at $295. You don't have to pay tax if you order something in another state then the one your in. Mine is backordered and is expected on March 28th, but I think most places are like that since it just came out. Just look at this article that shows how the Ti 4400 fares against the other GF4, GF3, GF2 and Radeon cards here in Anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1583&p=1

Neither. Grab a Radeon 8500 Retail for about $125. With a little o/c and the latest drivers you'll come within a hairs' ass of the Ti4400 for half (or less) the cost.

GF4 has been a total disappointment, IMHO. I remember GF3 doubling the 3DMark scores, but, more importantly, allowing me to play at higher res with acceptable framerates. GF4 doesn't offer enough of a boost to justify the price tag. That is, unless you have cash to blow or can really spot the difference between 160fps and 175fps 😀

That said, if you are dead set on a GF4, definitely go with the Ti4400, or await the Ti4200. There's little sense in spending $400+ when you can clock the 4400 to nearly the same (stock) 4600 speeds.

I wouldn't touch another Radeon with 20 foot pole.. at least that is how I feel..

I say Keep the GF3.

But depends on how and what you play. If you run high resoultion games and AA than get a GF4.

I on the other hand just upgraded to a P41.6A and a new mobo. The GF3 is actually running quite smooth now

Pabster hit it perfect, the 3 was ground shaking..(for me at least) the 4 doesn't have anything special, if anything pick up another 512 ram, may-b a new sound car, case mods 😛

plenty u can do with 400$

Get the 4400

I got the PNY and it o/c to 315/660.
Very nice card.

I justified it because I need to play everything at 1280x1024 due to an lcd monitor.

Visual quality is better and everything runs smooth now even with 2xAA on.

The REAL QUESTION is this: Will you use AA?? Do you notice the "jaggies" when you play games? If not, the GeForce4 is not worth the upgrade. I would wait until the fall for the next nVidia graphics card--you will probably see a much bigger reason to upgrade.

Yes, Full 4X AA and Antitropic Filtering also, I love maximum visual quality. Plus id like to bump up games to 1600x1200 on the norm, instead of the paltry 1280x1024 I have now😉 I have a Dell Trinitron 21" atm and a Klipsch 4:1 speakers, so I dont need to upgrade those. The reason id rather go 4400 over 4600 is because I want to use the other $100 for a new burner to replace my old Acer 8X, and because I dont *think* 4600 will be that much faster than the 4400, but thats why im waiting for the reveiws.

Yeah, go for it then. The benchies I've seen just shows the GeForce4 Ti4600 to be marginally faster... sometimes just as fast as the GeForce3 Ti500. Those new GeForce4s just allow for AA to be used... but still not at 1600X1200. If you have the $$ to blow then go for it. My ass is going to wait until the fall for the next nVidia GPU to arrive.

Not a chance I'd get a 4400 if i already had a GF3. the GF3 is still a freaking fast card by todays standards and I don't even see it to be worth the trouble of swapping and having possible problems, personally.

But that's just me.
