Go quad from E8600?

I was looking to go quad since I do video encoding/editing and I was curious if I would be best served to save some money and get a Q6600 G0 or spend a little more and get a Q9550 or something. Is there that much of a difference? Sorry for my lack of cpu knowledge. Thanks.

Make sure whichever encoding program you use is multithreaded or you won't see any advantage from a quadcore processor.

Q8200 is about equal to Q6600 in price & performance but runs cooler & uses less power (overclocks nicely from the benchmarks I've seen - xbitlabs).

If you live near a Fry's I've heard the Q9300 is around $180 making it a great value.

Q9400 ($270) and Q9550 ($320) are more expensive but also faster. Really depends on how much encoding you do as to whether or not it's a worthwhile upgrade for you.

I guess I will go with the Q9550 when I have the money for it. Seems worth it to me. Thanks for the replies.
