GO DUST OUT YOUR CASE!!!

Well, the last few days (actually, maybe a week?) I noticed that I have had instability at settings that I've never, ever had problems with. I thought it was just that I had installed Windows again (on monday) and a setting was different. But, from the errors it seemed like it was the overclock that was failing...wtf?!

Well, I realized today that it had been months since I had cleaned out my case! :Q :Q :Q I opened up my case and I was SHOCKED! A thick layer of dust on the bottom of the case, a layer on the video card and the sound card (the NIC is under the sound card so it was fine). But the key was that I had a TON of dust in my Golden Orb! On the fan fins, a layer coating the inside of all the fins so it made the air hard to escape and it insulated the heat. I also found a few dust glob dealies in my Gorb! Oh, and my case fan that I have blowing hot air out (parallel to my Gorb) was covered in dust too! Damn...I was ashamed. 🙁 😱

Well, I cleaned it all out- I haven't given it long enough to see if it remedied the stability issue I was having, but either way, here is a reminder: CLEAN OUT YOUR CASE!!!

🙂

I think my problem is that my case is on a carpetted floor. 😱

I used a lot of compressed air today. 🙂

Man, I want to marry a wife like that!!

Here's a tip: unplug your PC, take off the covers and take it to the garage. Those leaf blowers are perfect, my case is spotless in seconds!

My case is on a carpetted floor as well. I give it a general cleaning every week or so, and a thorough one about every three months.

Here's a tip for everyone, put filters on you intake fans. I put one on mine and the amount of dust in my system was significantly reduced. I wash the filter about every two weeks.

Good reminder for everyone, keep your case clean! 🙂🙂

My P83 has never been cleaned out as long as it's been here. Same goes with my old case that I've been using since the 486 days.

🙂

A new case is in order though..

I should of did that with my old P166 some. When I got my new parts about a year ago for this computer and was taking aprt P166 for some parts like floppy, cd-rom, etc... there was a dead spider in the front of the case by where the wires for LEDs plug in, hehe.

I go with the prevention is better than cure bandwagon & have filters on all my fan intakes. still, I do occasionally check for dust buildup in the case which so far has been minimal!

Zach, I do! The room is actually quite clean! I was SOOOOO surprised when i saw all the dust in there! :Q

By the way, since then, the system has been 100% stable and hasn't crashed or even hiccupped for a second. 🙂

I blew out my case about 2 weeks ago, of course I blew out all the dust while in the house, hehehe

I'm a guy, what can I say 😀
