Instead of a deal everyone might consider giving a donation to the red cross or give blood if you dont have the coin to give.

Anyone else know of some other legitimate charities ones might donate to to help people out?

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of this disaster and thousands of other disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Call 1-800-HELP NOW or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish). Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P. O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. Internet users can make a secure online contribution by visiting http://www.redcross.org

Also consider the salvation Army as another source for Hurricane relief

I was going to say "Not Hot", then I started feeling warm (and slightly fuzzy). I think you're on to something, HDTV.

And why not become a regular blood donor. You can give every 56 days, and your blood will be on the shelf, ready to use if a crisis occurs. Meanwhile you may save the lives of accident victims, surgical patients, or premature infants.

Yes even if everyone did it just once a year that would be of great benefit to the World.

not to turn this into off topics, i really think we wont see a lot in terms of casualty. which i think is the best out of a worst scenario. i think everybody who knows anything already evacuated. its not like we're india or thailand or sri lanka during the tsunami, we have enough time to evacuate or at least hide in shelters.

im more worried about the economic effects this hurricane is going to cost. premium gas > 4.00 by October is my guess.

anyways good luck to all those in the area

Give to the Salvation Army. I am not religious but having gone through a couple of hurricanes I would give my money to Salvation Army rather than the bloated, bureaucratic Red Cross.

Can't because I am the plague-ridden one... but nice thought. Demand that they give you orange juice and a cookie though. Without sustanance you can not survive long enough to pick out a thermos for your love.

I have donated blood almost every time I could since 1987. I worked at the University of Kansas Medical Center back then and when they needed blood you were asked to donate. Since then it has become a habit. It costs me nothing, I don't mind it, and it might save somebody's life, a no brianer.

ditto. the red cross had tens of millions of dollars donated after 9-11 that was specifically given for the families of the firefighters who were killed. they then spent the money on totally unrelated things. it was a big scandal for awhile, but then everybody forgot about it.

i took a course on cpr at the red cross a few weeks ago and they are already calling me for money.

"Kinda scary that both of the ppl who seem to enjoy giving blood have the same green faced, one eyed icon"

I got a good laugh out of that one, didn't pay any attention. The green coloration is caused by too much blood siphoning. The wierd eyeballs are caused by the shortage of blood on one side of the brain. DOH!! I actually feel better after I give blood for some reason, call me a tard. The worst part of the blood donation is ripping the bandaid off the jungle of hair on my arm.

1) best person that took my blood was a big black dude, about 6'6" 300+ pounds. Scary, but he was very, very good and it was almost painless. He said he had done medical work in the army.
2) they always mention how bright red my blood is for some reason
3) They always say that I flow blood like crazy and am an "easy stick"
4) Best prize for giving blood, free Jacksonville Jaguars football tickets!!

lol, 10 pts. Only problem for some people is that if you have a tatoo, they wont let you donate blood right? Thats just what i herd a friend say...otherwise, you can even get paid donating i believe.
