Go buy Barenaked Ladies - Maroon.

StageLeft

No Lifer
The alternative album thread reminded me, this album rocks my ass and yours. To my chagrin I'd not even listened to more than 2-3 songs from this album until late last year, when I gained possession of it and enjoyed its lyrical superiority over 98.2% of the music out there. I highly recommend it. I consider it the pinacle of Barenaked Ladies, with Gordon being the other top contender.

I like that band simply because their live shows are one of the most fun experiences you can have at a concert.

Agreed, great album.

If you enjoy it, also check out Guster - Lost and Gone Forever. There's not a single weak song on that CD.
5/5 on amazon, i think you're onto something!

Further to my first post, I really didn't think of BNL as more than a decent group before maroon, but it's got such incredible quality to the music on it that I can't help but consider them masterful musicians.

Are you kidding me?

LOL, I remember when the Old Toronto Mayor, Barbara Hall said they couldn't play at city hall because their name was sexually demeaning.

Barenaked Ladies rocks. I've always liked them.
She fed me strawberries and
freezer-burned ice cream
I said "Goodbye, I guess"
She lifted up her dress
and so I must confess,
we made out one more
time before I left for good
She thought I'd come back but I
wouldn't want to seem like other guys

A book-and-record love,
we sat and read our books
between those longing looks,
compounded by our fear
My tongue inside her ear,
my tongue insider her
in the basement of her mother's
house where she once taped the
first three sides of Sandanista! for my car

We were looking for ourselves
and found each other
In the Car
It was rare to do much more
than simply mess around
In the Car
It was mostly mutual masturbation
And though we spoke of penetration
I'd have to wait for someone else to try it out

Once I had this dream
where I slept with her mom
A secret all along, unless I've got this wrong
Unless she hears this song,
unless she hears it
on a tape inside her car
with her new husband and she
turns to him and says "I think that's me"

In the Car
We were looking for ourselves
but found each other
In the Car
We groped for excuses
not to be alone anymore
In the Car
We were waiting for our lives
to start their endings
In the Car
We were never making love
We were never making love
We were never making love

Meh. I'm not a big TMBG fan.

Speaking of quirky, it's no Flood but Shatner's recent Has-been is actually worth a listen if you aren't paying for it (I have the now-legal Napster 2.0).

It has Joe Jackson's best performance in years, and a bunch of other surprisingly good songs that combine Shatner speaking, someone like Jackson or Ben Folds singing, plus music. Him and Henry Rollins ranting together is pretty funny.
