I just bought two of the things, and after testing them for myself I think they're AWESOME!!! Did you hear me?! Of course you did - because unlike a lot of other people here the fan on my cooler doesn't sound like a diesel powered hair dryer. It's quiet. Quiet enough that with the case on I can't even hear it over my case fans, which are quiet themselves.
I was about to click the "order" button for two SK6s with Delta screamers when at the last minute I came across a mention of the Glaciator. Although the performance of this unit was equal to many others in the lower end of the top ten heatsink round-up I was reading, I noticed the very important difference - it was using a stock fan instead of the Delta. Reviews of heatsinks of late have been disappointing me because quite frankly I don't care about the performance of a unit that sounds like a fighter jet taking off. My system is in a home office I often sleep in at night, and if it's going to be so loud I won't be able to sleep or think then all other considerations are pretty pointless.
Let's face it, no matter how pretty the girl is, if she's a masochistic crackhead you aren't going to be able to take her home and live with her. What would mom think?
The Glaciator is a heavy sucker, although not nearly as heavy as the first model so I read. It's a very ruggedly designed sink with an enclosed fan, and has an industrial look that grows on you over time. The build quality is extremely high, the clip is adequate (and would be better were it to make use of all three socket pins) and the included fan can plug right into the mainboard header without cooking it. No adapters or other crap needed. One of the best things about this unit is the base - it comes to you looking as if it were lapped by a pro. No visible machine markings or warpage to be found, ensuring the best possible contact using the free Artic Silver II that comes with the unit.
The bottom line with this unit is you can buy it for $33 direct from the manufacturer, and once it's delivered all you need to do is open the box, polish the base a little if you're anal and apply the ASII. It's a totally comprehensive solution that performs like a champ and is useable by normal people with good hearing.
Best of all, it's easy to get in Canada since you can order it online and the service from the company is outstanding - I've received correspondence from them regularly without delay and they're always helpful and friendly.
I'd recommend this cooler to anyone thinking about an SK6. Save some money and get yourself a better cooler.
