I bought the Samsung 193p about 3 months ago. Beautiful lcd. Colors, brightness, clarity, contrast are all top notch. But there is a problem and maybe it's just my eyes. It's more difficult to read text for longer periods of time than it was on my crt. It could be the flourescent lighting. It's hard to describe, buy my eyesight has gotten worse because of it. I hate to go back to crt. Are there any tips? Like position of lamps around lcd and type?

I`ve the brightness on my LCD right down, that does help, othe things like don`t have the monitor too close and use DVI where possible.I prefer my LCD in a dark corner away from windows etc,but it`s really a personal thing,as to lamps I like them so they don`t shine towards my LCD screen.

F YOU HAVE A LCD MONITOR, YOU NEED TO ENABLE CLEAR TYPE! Once you turn it on, you will NEVER EVER turn it off. EVER!

Wrong! Not all LCD monitors look better with clear type,my Samsung 191T looks horrible with clear type on,however he has nothing to lose by trying it.

there are 2 different settings in cleartype: RGB and BGR. Click on the link I posted earlier and choose the settings that suit you best.

Throw your LCD into the garbage. :p

Seriously though. If you have a decent quality LCD and windows XP, use your "Clear Type" setting in your "appearance" applet under "effects". You should notice the text sort of "antialias's" so to speak taking away most of the jaggies. In reality, its really only "smoothing the text" by blurring it slightly.

You cant beat a CRT though. The only reason I can see getting a LCD over a CRT is to save desk space. Thats it. People will say, "My electric bill went down 500.00 per month switching to an LCD. They are lying. You will only notice a few cents saved per month and thats if your really looking. And heat? LCD's dont throw off as much heat as a CRT, but they do throw off a decent amount. Other than that, Gaming isn't as good as a CRT nor is just reading plain text. You would have to spend quite a bit of money to get an LCD that is comparable to even a mid range CRT quality. I know, I have taken the LCD route. I now have my 19" Dell CRT mounted in my wall so its flush. Flatter than any LCD LOL.... Theres more than one way to save desk space.

I went back to a CRT after using a 1801FP for about a year.

Games just look better.

Holy sh*t you guys spend a ton on monitors. Although that one looks to be a winner. NEC/Mitsubishi makes some darn nice products.

Maybe some of us value our eyes. General rule is spend half the total cost of your system on the monitor. eg. $1000 system - $500 monitor; $2000 system - $1000 monitor.

Not likely. Usually get a nice monitor and hold on to it for a while. :p

I got an LCD for work and a viewsonic crt at home. My eyes don't get as tired as the lcd when I stare at it for long periods of tijme. And no, it's not because my work is boring.
