GO ASUS!

Been having a 2 1/2 month long ordeal getting my new A8N-SLI system up and running.

After an RMA replacement due to power issues and then an RMA repair of the replacement motherboard for non-working LAN/1394 ports, I still had a system that would not post. The third time around, I sent them both the A8N-SLI and ASUS X800 XT for further testing. I just recieved word that they are replacing both.

Shipping today.

Damn, I am finally back where I started back in early December. In spite of all the trouble, it's good to see a company backing up their products like this. Should be up and running by the weekend.

Just noticed they shipped it overnight as well (ground is standard for RMA). FedEx should be here within the next hour or two. My feelings about ASUS are quite a bit better than they were a couple of weeks ago. Nothing like new gear to make a guy feel better about things.....

2 1/2 months without a working computer and your happy with ASUS? To each his own I guess.

I contend your point. Want to know a secret? ASUS will do advance RMAs on 'server' products. They also FedEx Express the replacement. I called in on my PC-DL and had a replacement board within two days.

It may be cold to say, but if you need that kind of reliability, you should be considering a server-class board anyway. If you need close to 24x7x365 uptime, you don't need a desktop, you need a workstation.

Would be nice if they would do advance on consumer boards, but I can't think of a single manufacturer that does these days.

Well look at the other side of the coin, I could be getting back the same hardware that has been giving me all this trouble for round 4. Instead I'm getting a new A8N-SLI and AX800 XT. How should I not be happy about that? It's what I told them I wanted them to do and it's what they did. Its been a real bi*ch, but in the end I'm only tryin to give them credit for taking care of the customer.

No one else respond (probably not going to happen) but:

Why did you get an SLI motherboard and a non-SLI Video card!?

Nice rig anyways, good luck on this one.

Cause I had been sitting on my X800 XT (and everything else) for 2 months waiting for NF4 boards to start shipping and the ASUS SLI board was the first to hit retail. In retrospect I should have waited but I wasnt willing to wait at the time.

Sell the X800XT and get Dual 6800GT's or Ultra's..

Nah, my XT is more than enough power at the moment.

I dont really see the trouble of selling the XT, buying TWO more $550 cards and another $40 waterblock, and then re-configuring my watercooling set-up as being all that appealing to tell you the truth. It's just not worth the effort and extra expense, all to add a marginal level of performance that will hardly be noticed above the performance I already have.

SLI doesn't have my interest yet. I may happen to have an SLI capable board, but it doesn't bother me the least bit not to utilize it.....

EDIT: By the way, the rig is up and running at last. Idle at 28/32c. Riddick awaits, I hope it's as good a game as I heard it was.....

SkyBum, congrats on finally getting some functional Asus hardware. I had to RMA a TI4600 Limited 4 times to Asus. 😉 Your rig looks (and runs I'm sure) kickass!

The Ultra X psu sure does look nice, and the cables are some of the nicest I have seen. I just wish a "reputable" vendor could offer something as nice. The OCZ Mod & Powerstream come close.....

Looks pretty bad ass dude!

I give WD my props for the 4 RMA's i have had to do in the past 2yrs 😛. They were fast on delivery and I had no problems. On my last one they even sent me out a 250Gb WD SE drive instead of the 200 SE drive. I got an extra 50Gb 🙂
