I'm digging Xfce. I was a huge Gnome 2.x fan, and considered that the DE perfected. It worked exactly the way I liked, and could be made to look pretty good without going overboard on system requirements. I've tried both Unity and Gnome3, and they really aren't working for me. I'll continue to trial them, but it's the core I have the issue with, not bugs, or lack of fully fleshed features.
Xfce is close to classic Gnome. It lacks a bit of the polish Gnome had, but my experience so far has been very positive. I do want to give E17 a good trial, but it takes a good bit of work up front, and I haven't felt like putting in the time as of yet.
I also think I've settled on running Debian as opposed to *buntu. I liked Ubuntu cause it was pretty much what I wanted out of the box. Newer and newer releases have me changing more stuff, and Unity is the final straw. If I'm gonna be changing stuff, I might as well start from the base. I hosed my first sid install, but I've got another test install up and running, and with apt-listbugs installed, it's much more manageable. There's still a minor panic scenario when there's a crapload of updates, but taking the time and reading through everything has gone well so far. I should learn more about the system, and how things work behind the scenes using sid, and I'll get the benefit of a rolling release :^)
