GNodes = Blocks = Seti WUs ?

I think this was posted before, but id like to compare projects, has anyone done all of these on the same procesor, and knows what the equivalents would be? For example, how many RC5 blocks equals the amount of work in one Seti work unit? and OGR, etc

I've done OGR and RC5, and I did Seti for about four days. It's difficult to compare Seti and RC5, and impossible to compare we sizes for OGR and anything. I think I remember reading once that a p233mmx could complete one Seti wu in 24 hours. A p233mmx will do about 150 RC5 blocks per day, so 150:1 might be a fairly accurate ratio for Seti@home wus to rc5 blocks.

There's no way to compare OGR wus with anything because they vary so greatly. There have been some that are smaller than an rc5 block, and some that are several hundred times larger than an rc5 block.

i've never really payed any attention to mine, but it depends on your CPU, for instance Seti is very cache intesive, but RC5 is more Mhz intensive so it will vary form computer to computer.

oh yeahy, also set WU's vary in size and time it takes to complete, the one i use take between 9 and 17 hours on my main system, so there is variation there.

Doh... I just remembered that you were asking about Gnodes versus blocks for OGR, and that CAN be compared.

Let's see, my CeleronII 850 does 2.37 or so Mkeys/sec, and 6.1 Mnodes/sec. So it could do a 2^28 RC5 block in 113 seconds, or a giganode in 163 seconds. So, for a p6 class processor one OGR giganode = 163/113 = 1.44 RC5 blocks.

SETI varies a lot depending on so many factors that I'm not sure you can really compare it with the other contests.

You can't really say how long SETI will take to do a WU because of all the different things that effect the speed. Such as RAM settings, FSB, cache speed, cache size, etc.

If you give us a processor and your system settings we could probably tell you how long an average WU would take.

Thanks for reminding me! What you're talking about, in economics terminology, is "opportunity costs". Mika made a page of some of them, from postings I had made, but they need updating for OGR.
