I am about to get my new Gnex (tmobile) in the mail tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any good extended battery recommendations and/or case recommendations.

For the battery id like it to be as slim as possible and for the case i dont want anything too bulky and i dont need one with a belt clip or anthing like that.

Thanks

Just get the official samsung extended battery. I think I saw it for like $25 on amazon.

I actually have 2 extended batteries, 2 standard batteries, and a samsung battery charger. It's pretty helpful when I'm travelling and dont have access to a power outlet to charge up my phone.

I don't use a case so I can't offer much there. I actually have a pouch that is identical to the pouch that came with the nexus one. I just use it while my phone is in my pocket to protect it.

The unfortunate thing is that the readily available nexus extended battery is the Verizon version - It won't work on your GSM phone.

The GSM model is typically imported from Korea, & you'll pay a lot more for it.

For cases, I'ma fan of the simple TPU gel covers. They're slim and offer plenty of protection without adding any bulk.

I really like the the Otterbox commuter case, it's really sturdy but it doesn't add that much in weight or size to the phone. Without any case the phone felt sort of fragile in my opinion. But then again I was coming from a bulky HTC G2 which is twice as thick as the Nexus ;). It's a 2 Part case made up of a soft gel inner shell and a hard plastic outer shell. Not difficult to remove, but I wouldn't want to do it everyday if you use the phone hard and need to swap batteries all the time.

2 negatives: The rubber inner shell does pick up dust and lint from your pocket and the outer shell is slick on the back and a little slippery to hold.

That said I am completely satisfied with it.

Yes you do have to buy from Korea, but they aren't expensive. I Paid 34.xx for mine, sure it was more than the 25 that the Verizon GNex extended battery costs, but about par for a quality battery. Only issue is, the extended battery (official Samsung anyway) does add thickness.

I like the extra juice, but I really like the thinness of the phone plus I thought the chin/lip thing is pretty neat. It's a trade off, I'll take extra time off the charger for a bit of thickness.

Forget the extended, just get a spare or two and swap. You can get the battery + standalone (out of phone) charger for ~$40 (look for the charging system for the Galaxy S Blaze; it's the same battery).

This also lets you use all cases without worrying about fit. IMO the Mercury TPU cases are the best blend of looks, protection, bulk, and price but I haven't gotten mine to stretch to my LTE Nexus yet.

Thanks for the input. I went with a Diztronic for now. Only $10 so if i end up not liking it down the line no biggie on the pocket book. But of course dont you know it. I got the phones a day early. Went to tmobile got them set up and we went next door for some icecream and while sitting outside it slide out of my cargo shorts pockets onto the concrete. Maybe a 2 foot fall. Figures lol. Not even 15 mins old and already scratches on the corners lol
