GM's difficult road ahead

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/03/30/60minutes/main1458483_page3.shtml

some quotes i would like to share:

on bankruptcy:

"Our view is that's a very bad idea," he says. "First of all, we don't think it's going to happen. We don't think it's a good strategy. And we think a lot of people would lose if we did that, ranging from shareholders to employees to dealers to suppliers. And it's my view that all this talk about bankruptcy is way over selling the risk side of the business."

and the rest can be read at the link, its long, but very good read, especially if you think GM going bankrupt/out of business would do very little to the Economy.

If they would stop making such crappy cars people might buy them? I can't think of a single vehicle they make that I would really want over a competitors vehicle... The only thing they are living on right now is their truck/suv segment.

I will take a Corvette Z06 over similarly priced sports cars anyday

Lucerne
Tahoe
Escalade
Yukon

pretty soon the Aura, Outlook as well.

If they go bankrupt hopefully they'd spin off Holden, then we wouldn't get some of our fully sick concepts squashed 😉

not one concept from GM is more sick than the two Cadillac produced a few yeears ago.

Cadillac Cien and
Cadillac Sixteen.

It is sad. I was at the O'Reilly Spring Nationals today and went by the Pontiac display. Saw the Solstice in person and it was a very attractive car. I like the lines and the stance. I said to my buddies that if someone was looking for a little impractical roadster that is a nice car. Then I sat in it. GM still hasn't learned much. The ergonomics simply suck....a problem that has plagued GM vehicles for decades. It was also very uncomfortable and I am only 5'10". My two friends climbed in and found the same issues as me.

Like I said living on SUV's, vette styling hasn't changed dramatically in forever although it is fast no doubt needs some new looks, maybe go a little retro?, Cadilac has to compete with BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, that's not easy at all...

In my opinion Chyrsler has been doing an amazing job at keeping new unique and appealing cars coming out, the challenger concept looked awesome. Dodge Charger, Chrylser 300C, Dodge Magnum, Chrysler Crossfire, Dodge Caliber.

Not here to offend anyone who owns/likes gm i just didn't find anything they make appealing or exciting as I remember the 2006 minneapolis autoshow i went to.

i name 10 cars, three are SUV's, and they are living on them?

Caddy competing with Jaguar is funny cuz Jaguar hemmoraged more money last year than Saab did.

I saw the segment on 60 minutes. Amazing how low GM is right now compare to what they were.

GM used to own 50% of market share in the US. This year they are lucky to have 25%. They are planning to cut thousands of jobs <white and blue collars>, shutdown/consolidate plants while Toyota/Honda/Nissan are building new plants and running full production speed.

Note: each percent of marketshare is about 250,000 vehicles per year. They could be in bankruptcy court if Delphi is on strike.
