This problem may also be similar to issues with a Chevy Trailblazer or S10 of similar year since they are mostly the same truck.

I have a 98 GMC Jimmy which will not switch to 4WD. It has the 3 button switch.. 2WD, 4WD Hi and 4WD Lo. The 2WD light is ON.
If I push either 4WD button nothing happens. no flashing, nothing.

I pulled the buttons out and pulled the connectors and reconnected them, and still the same issue.

Where do the wires from the 3 button switch go? I believe somehow, eventually something gets down to the crank case actuator.

Should I just spend the $20-25 and pick up a new switch from RockAuto? Just would like a better idea if that's a likely culprit or not.

Thanks.

I've got a 95-04 haynes manual for your vehicle, unfortunately there's not a schematic for the 4wd switch. In the section for the transfer case there's mention of a vacuum switch that I recall being problematic with 4wd models (mine had 2wd so I didn't have to mess with it.) I doubt that it's the switch on the dash that is not working, although it is a possibility. I'd head over to blazerforum.com and do some research, when I had my blazer I found most all the information I needed without ever having to post a question.

Thanks. Most things I've read is that the lights will flash while its trying to switch the transfer case. (and I get no indication that anything is happening.. or that the button actually registered) I had the vacuum switch replaced several years ago.. the buttons worked.. it just had a difficult time switching between 2 and 4wd.
