If you take the GMAT, can you take it multiple times and the best score gets sent to the school?

I would like to take it just to see where I stand.

I believe once you send a score to a school they have access to your score history. What they do with it is up to them. If you want to just take a test, sign up for the free Kaplan diagnostic. It's not computer adaptive but I think it gives you a general idea of where you stand.

It's expensive and not worth taking if you just want to see where you stand. If you go that route, I'd recommend downloading the GMATPrep software that you should find with a quick google search. It is a full-length computer-adaptive test and usually a decent indicator of where you will land scorewise.
