Is there a decent native Gmail widget that works like the HTC mail widget but isnt IMAP?

try pure messenger widget. it's not free though

Cheers for that, will look into it.

TBH I'm surprised there isn't a good Google branded one. You'd think it would have been one of the first ones they'd have released.

Honeycomb has it, but of course it was made with the assumption you'd have lots of screen space. On a phone its a little more complicated. I should think you'd need one whole desktop just to make it useful.

Actually that widget with a decent skin looks exactly like what I'm looking for.

the other "pure" widgets i've used from the same developer have been very customizable in terms of appearance - I run all of them in a "transparent" mode.

that's going to be true for any widget to be scrollable...it will require launcher pro or adw. both are free though.

i too would love to see the honeycomb gmail widget ported to gingerbread

Launcher Pro (paid version) has a gmail widget built in as well. It's skinnable so it can look nice (compared to the ugly stock look).

I have a sense phone so I have a few scrollable widgets already.

I don't want to run sense and launcher pro (if that is possible), and I'm not scrapping sense.

ahhh got it. Unfortunately the sense launcher isn't compatible with 3rd party scrollable widgets, which sucks. and the sense widgets aren't compatible with 3rd party launchers :(

htc should provide an sdk for sense widgets

That would be cool but I guess they want to keep a tight hold of sense. Its fair enough in a way, its a big selling point of their phones for a lot of people.

I bought Pure and maybe it's just my dumb luck, but on my EVO I have to hit the manual refresh button for my widget to display my emails most of the time. I generally only get an empty box. I like how it looks and how it's skinable but it doesn't really work well for me.
