gmail scares me

i emailed my friend with UPS tracking number and gmail somehow reads it and provide the link to the UPS tracking system right in the same page. very conviniet, i thought.

i emailed another friend who has XXX@umich.edu address and gmail provides link to school, online shops that sells wolverine stuff, etc. now i'm scared a bit.

basically gmail is spoofing my emails and it's getting better every seconds. i'm only beginning to realize the implication of this technology. maybe our gov't already secretly ordered google to forward email to them when gmail finds emails with a word 'bomb', 'screw america', etc. gmail has the power to find out if you are having an affair, extorting money, or god-knows-what.

but what about the right to privacy?

 You give up your right to privacy when you send things over the Internet.

Anyways, you can put your tracking number into google search and it'll do the same thing.

If you bothered to pay attention, you would know that no person ever sees the info that is "mined" from your emails. It is all automated on a server, and again, if you paid attention, you would know that google isn't exactly bending over and taking it when the US Goverment asks for things.

So you are fine. As always, anything you send via email is unsecure in the end.

hahahahaha

use your own "private" email if you don't like it

what secrets do you have?

Their not reading your emails behind your back. Its gaining that information from plain text as its displayed on your browser. Much like ads work that show ads based off keywords on the page.

I just noticed this the other day, an email had an address in it, and it presented me with a link to map the address automatically.

I thought it was dang cool, but to each their own I guess.
