Gmail and android

I've got a Google apps account that I used to access via exchange. Now that I bought a new phone (gs4) I can no longer use Exchange. Is it true that the only way I can get true push is using the gmail app?

I use K9. I don't remember the settings (maybe IMAP), but it pushes just fine on my GS3

Is that paid? I thought Google Apps accounts were exempt -- they are keeping Activesync as an option for paid customers, and grandfathered accounts+devices.

i use K9 for 3 email acnts. google, fastmail and my own domain

all set to IMAP, all push fine

k9 is free

Two reasons.

1. I like to combine my work and personal email in the same inbox

2. I miss a "mark all as read" in the gmail app.
