What is a good Gmil Alternative, I can't stand the New look!

Just change the look to "Compact" find a darker theme and you'll get used to it. I didn't like it at first either, but just left it months ago on the new interface and just got used to it.

or you can pick one of a bunch of different email providers. Or use a stand alone program like Thunderbird. (haha, beat you to it lxskllr)

the lack of text on buttons really annoyed me at first, ive kinda gotten used to it, but still dont see the point in changing things

im more annoyed by the inbox/contacts/tasks being turned into a drop down, but whatever

id say go with msn since the skydrive features are nice anyway, especially if youre an office user

Yea, but you'd use that with Gmail, or any other service you want. You can set it up the way you like, and change the appearance/features as needed.

i personally LOVE windows hotmail (aka Live mail) its really easy to use and much MUCH better looking than gmail... however windows's spam filters are quite aggressive on me though.. dunno why

No, not necessarily. Gmail has webmail - no ISP needed. Same for Hotmail. OP's focus is really on webmail alternatives.

I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention to what you were saying. I translated "ISP" to "providing service". To use Thunderbird you need an internet connection. You can buy, borrow, or steal that; you don't need an ISP. It doesn't provide email service of its own. Since the OPs complaint was regarding the interface, you can change that by using a client, and the best client is a libre client which Thunderbird is.

If someone thinks Gmail's interface is bad...good luck on hotmail.

i like gmail and im still curious as to how everyone is seeing the "new look" as something drastically different then the old. to me, i could barely tell they changed anything... just the way some of the menu lists work thats about it

I realize that, but I was having trouble reconciling that with the application of an email client. That would be like a web browser requiring an isp.

yes, and it's no different than it has been for years. I'll give you it's easy to use, I never said it wasn't though. So easy to use that the few retired people and people over 60 I know use it.

I have a web host for $10/yr. And another $10/yr for a domain. It includes webmail, but I just use outlook or the program on my phone.

New look for me is terrible. I tried other themes, but they just do not look as good as the old Classic Gmail Theme .. maybe someone will come up with one to bring it back to the old look, while retaining the new features. I use an old Firefox 3 Theme for Firefox 4 and later, just to have the classic look I prefer.

why not just use thunderbird? I also have heard good things about sparrow if your on mac.

and if you really need the web interface, then maybe someone has written a greasemonkey script?

Personally i think gmail looks fine. Change the view to compact, and pick a nice looking theme.

Is this just google forcing the new look on everyone now, as opposed to being a selectable option? 'Cause gmail looks exactly the same to me, but I switched months ago.

Switch to compact mode. You'll get used to it.

I only use Gmail because I have to have an alternative to my regular mail (AT&T), which I can access at home via Live Mail or online on their server; the interface of the latter is OK, but typical web mail. Have no use for Hotmail. If you have an ISP, see what they offer online.
