So pay the transportation costs to get the Volt almost there, drive another car almost there, then drive a few miles in the Volt?

That's almost as stupid as a private jet.

EDIT: since it is a hybrid why not use the Volt the whole way?

How the fsck did they drive a Volt Prototype that far? On the gas engine?

Volt has a battery range of 40 frickin' miles!!!

The Volt has a battery only range of 40 miles. But it also has a gasoline engine/generator on board to keep the vehicle running when the battery is low. That is good for an additional 320 miles. So it can go 360 miles on a tank.

That being said, he started the trip in a Malibu Hybrid and switched to the Volt in Washington to "make a statement"

Yeah trem, now that you mention it ... I remember seeing the pic yesterday of them driving the malibu ...

But I like what Disgruntled is thinking ... which is probably exactly what they did.

What a fucking circus of a world we live in ...

if they really wanted to make a statement, they wouldnt ask for that 25 billion dollars set aside for alternative fuel research as their bailout money

They didn't wanna get reamed again for flying in on a private jet so instead they flew the car in on a private jet instead, then drove in on a Malibu Hybrid and switched to the Volt. :p

He drove the Volt from his Washington hotel to congress. It's still a prototype so they probably did not want to risk driving it the entire way from where ever he started from.

Towed by another car? Hell, they had that thing packed into a semi trailer or air shipped in to DC. He then drove it from Embassy Suites or wherever he's staying to the hill.

this.

The volt would be able to make the entire drive when in production, but best not to risk it as a prototype. There is always the possibility that someone will wreck into it and that would be bad news.

You can't rely on a Volt to get you where you want to go?

Why aren't the oil companies bailing out the auto industry? It's their main source of income. No cars = no need for oil.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper for him to fly commercial and just ride a damn cab?

I don't see how it could have been cost-effective to tow/flatbed a prototype a couple hundred miles, then drive it a few miles, have 50 engineers fix and detail it again, drive it another few miles, then transport it back.

Duh, The oil companies are barely making money. In fact I think the tax payers should start to think about programs to help out the oil companies. Like tax breaks and such so they don't have to layoff any workers.

bc there will be cars whether or not these particular companies fail now, or fail later

Not sure how you concluded that. If the big 3 goes down, the slack will more than be picked up by the remaining auto manufacturers. The oil companies will not take much of a hit if any directly from any of this. Plus their main source of revenue is not from the auto industry, GM does not pay for the gas in my tank, I do.
