Good, the car was a worthless hog anyways. If the deal went through, the Chinese would have gotten tired of the unions and given them pink slips anyways.

Oh yeah, pennies on the dollar cost of labor versus here.

So, when is this whole 'sorry, middle class America, you have to take more cuts to compete with poor global workers' going to end, as China's economy surpasses ours?

When are 'democratics rights and freedoms' going to become a 'luxury' we 'can't afford' in order to compete with less free countrues?

Too bad we aren't using our world leader position to increase human rights around the world while we can - as Carter was the last President to make it part of policy for the US. There's no end in sight for decades.

Our current politics, with the government controlled not so much by the people but by the corporatocracy, is not going to be good for Americans. Concentrated power is tyrannical whatever its form and name.

What does "less free countries" have to do with anything. India is perfectly free but their labor and technology is still cheaper than the US. Pushing American style "freedom" around the world is a failed policy. It sure sounds great, to Americans, but those countries have to come up with their own style that their own people support.

And more protectionism is not going to help middle class american. uncompetitve companies with weak profit and small market share won't be able to hire many people with decent salary. What this country need is strategic planning. Building industries where American have competitive advantage in, ie, those that are not labor intensive. And have the corresponding programs to help middle class American to get jobs in those industries. The role of government should to to facilitate and not to add more restrictions.

And investment in competitive American industries is both good for corporations and good for middle class American.

Besides the benefits to the people in those countries, it determines the 'global culture of freedom and human rights' that will either help or hinder the US people protect our own rights in the future as 'competition' increases. Like a 'culture' of non-union labor compeition in which workers get few rights and poverty wages is not as good as a culture where unions have increased worker pay and rights, helping non-union workers as well as competition for the workers.

Pushing American style "freedom" around the world is a failed policy. It sure sounds great, to Americans, but those countries have to come up with their own style that their own people support.

It's barely been tried. Apparently you fell for the militarist propaganda that to justify wars there was massive propaganda around it being 'for the benefit of the people to increase rights'. That was bull.

The US has had an enormously powerful influence around the world at increasing human rights - not at the point of a gun, usually.

And more protectionism is not going to help middle class american. uncompetitve companies with weak profit and small market share won't be able to hire many people with decent salary. What this country need is strategic planning. Building industries where American have competitive advantage in, ie, those that are not labor intensive. That planning is something I've suggested for a long time. It's not enough to protect Americans. Don't get into the details here of protectionism, just recognize the need for planning where some protectionism is an option. The issue isn't protectionism - which can be a bad thing - it's whether the interests of the American people are driving or policies, or the interests of the conecntrated power in the corporatocracy that say 'screw the people, whose poverty we think enriches us, and make us even more money'.

The military humvee != hummer. The H2 and above are basically GM trucks with a cool looking body. The H1 was manufactured by AM General.

Probably when their GDP per capita surpasses yours.

Do you know how much economic clout the US has over China at the moment? And the problem with America imposing its human rights on the rest of the world is that it's not necessarily what the rest of the world want.

if you want to make it more viable to produce goods in america, why not put up tariffs? make imported goods expensive enough and people will produce and buy items made in america.

japan and korea are notorious for having extremely high tariffs and/or limiting imports of foreign cars

mind you i'm not saying whether it's a good or bad idea, merely that it is one solution to "encouraging" domestic production and purchase.

The only reason we let the Chinese buy it is BECAUSE we couldn't sell it to anyone else.

I don't know who is getting your wish... If no one wants to buy a vehicle that gets the worst gas millage on the planet then can you blame em? It needed to die a long time ago. Waste of money and no real use for Hummer. Even people in America with half brain can see that. Why the OP can't is beyond me.

Because tariffs won't stop me from buying a Honda over a Chrysler made vehicle.

Do you realize that Toyota and Honda have manufacturing plants in the US?
Do you realize that Ford/GM have already shifted a lot of their production facilities to Mexico?

So true. My Saturn was made in Belgium. My friends Mazda was made in California. Go figure! :hmm:

Good riddance to a PoS dinosaur driven by assholes with tiny penises.

And you seem to envy those tiny penises, that you care so much what other people freely spend their own money on.

When did you attend elementary school? I'd bet mid to late 90s+, that's about the time hatred of other people's material things and environmental extremist brainwashing took off in public schools and socialism became socially acceptable.

 I'm 42. I hate Hummers and every other 2-3 ton SUV with an asshat soccer mom/dad yapping on their phone. I hate the same people in smaller cars too but at least I can see around them and they aren't so tall/heavy. IOW, your theory is fail.

I'll jump on this bandwagon.

I hate mac users because they're preppie know it alls who think they have some claim to divinity because they swallowed Apple's marketing for higher prices on the same hardware hook line and sinker.

I hate hybrid owners because they're smug hippies who think they will be rewarded in eco-heaven for not saving the planet.

What else do we hate?

Is there a Mazda assembly plant in California?

For the Mazda 6. Made here and in Mexico.. which is why the 6 mostly sucks for reliability compared to Mazda cars made in Japan, except for the RX8. The RX8 is made in Japan but it's a turd since the engineering team all came from here and are not the original japanese team.

LOL! Do even read the drivel you spew? "Envy those tiny penises..."

I bet you drive a Hummer, want to drive a Hummer, and/or have a tiny penis yourself.
