Gas mileage must suck, dead hippies rolling over in their graves. But if you can afford a car with a V12, you probally dont care about fuel economy anyways.

How do you propose it be shoehorned in a Corvette? Not to mention the massive front weight bias it would cause. I would rather have a forced induction V8.
I missed where it mentioned the weight of this new engine. Could someone point it out to me?
Big engine = big weight.

What we do know are two things. The engine will be made from aluminum and it will fit in the same space as a V8. There's a good chance that it will weigh about the same as an iron block engine made 10 to 15 years ago.

Why so little power? The BMW 6.1 liter V12 in the McLaren F1 puts out 627 hp.

High rpm = high cost. No one will pay as much for a GM engine as a BMW engine.

GM said the V-12 would produce significantly more than 500 hp but would not be more specific

We don't know how much it will make. It very well could be over 750hp.

That motor is a) expensive

I don't think we'll be seeing a budget minded V12 any time soon.

The motor is not as exspensive as you would think. The exhaust cost more than the engine. Also the F1 was designed as a road car first it just happens to be of a high enough quality to race with.

LOL look at this:
Cadillac was the last GM division to offer a V-12, back in the 1930s. The coming V-12 is a new design, GM said.
Gee, ya think its gonna be new? I should hope so! The fact that GM has to state this engine isn't based on a 70-year-old design proves that they're known for producing outdated crap.

Yeah, all that gold plating on the engine is dirt cheap...

The engine is not gold plated it is the engine compartment that is gold plated because it is a carbon fiber car not steel or aluminum.

And at that it's still not "gold plated", it's got a (THIN!) gold foil covering the insides of the engine compartment to reflect the heat.

crappy gas mileage doesn't stop people from buying a Viper. I am more excited about engines like the Honda hybrid that pumps 400HP with 2 little 100HP electric motors besides the gasoline one.

Actually the new V-12 is going to have displacement on demand, which will easily give it the best gas mileage of any V-12 engine ever.

Just in case someone who is looking to buy a $100,000-$250,000 V-12 car and who cares about environmental friendliness happens to exist :p

Yeah, you're probably the only one.

I hate to dissapoint you, but if Honda is claiming their concept car has a 400HP engine, then the production version of that engine will likely have 2/3 that (at best), or roughly 270HP. Automakers always exagerrate the power on their concept cars. And that's *if* they can actually make it.

Besides, who the fvck would buy a performance car made by Honda?

Unlike Honda's pie-in-the-sky, GM's V-12 is real, and about to enter production.

Well, panel gaps/poor fitting exterior panels/poor fitting exterior trim and cheap interiors are what GM is known for. As for ugly cars? Aztek, Avalanche, Sunfire, Grand Am, Impala, Monte Carlo, CTS, Cavalier...all pretty rank IMHO.

Well thats interesting, considering my body man has always told me how well GM OEM parts fit onto the bodies. Strange indeed. Aztec = ugly, I'll give you that. But geez all of those other cars sell so many that they must be ugly too, right? I totally forgot for a second that what NSF4 thinks is ugly, is indeed ugly! /end sarcasm

If honda released a turd and called it a car I think that you would like the looks of it.. having said that, at least most of the people on this board are open-minded.

Have you seen me post on the Honda Element? It looks like sh!t. It's rather hard to call most Honda's ugly b/c they go for the lowest common denominator in styling so they are not polarizing in styling like the CTS or Aztek. They run a line straight down the middle that is hardly offensive.

And all of those cars (with exception of the Avalanche) I mentioned are outsold by their Japanese counterparts.

Not if you add up the sheer number of sales from GM. (I.E. Honda has the Accord, basically Honda's only offering in that class. Take the sales of GM's Grand Am, Grand Prix, Malibu, Impala, Alero, Intrigue, and every other car in the class that many of which are the same body style with a different badge, I bet that GM's counterpart will outsell Hondas). I do agree that Honda's styling is very conservative and hard to offend anyone, however, I just happen to like the aggressiveness of GM's cars.

Your body man has an easy time fiting parts because of the huge gaps left over :)

Also, Britney Spears and Backstreet boys sell a lot of music. Does that automatically mean it's good?

Sorry but GM has the WORST design team. Half their cars are ugly, the other half outdated.

What i've always found funny is that the 2003 1500/Sierra have the exact same square dashboard that GM has been using since the 80's!!!! That just kills me and i won't purchase a Chevy truck just for that funky a$$ interior (that and the seats feel/look cheap too).

The interior is the same on all their cars. Yuck

HoHoHo! It looks like we have a jokester here! I think I would notice huge body gaps on my car if they were there or not. You guys are always arguing for your imports that they outsellf their gm counterparts.. so you tell me if huge sales means good products. To me, huge sales mean pleasing a market, and I don't see one thing wrong with that. (Hell, let the Backstreet Boys keep releasing music as long as they can sell it.) It seems to me that there are a few guys that design cars that probably can't remember their ABC's, but as I said, they have always been more aggressive in styling, so they're bound to offend a few people. Many of their cars are beautiful, both concept and non-concept. Looks are all personal taste and I just happen to love the looks of the Grand Am SC/T, Grand Prix GT/GTP, Solstice, G8, Alero, as well as many other offerings from GM. I won't dip into the luxury SUV category, caus right now I could only dream about affording one of those. Oh ya, I forgot to mention the GTO, I can't wait until that comes out... pretty sure I'll be buying one.
