I see that you beat me to the punch posting the story, although the mood of our posts are certainly very different.

As a former owner of a GM based small car (Cobalt/Ion) I can say good riddance. I think a monkey with a hammer could have done a better job putting that thing together.

The difference is of the GM brands they have the best lineup
The Astra is way better than the Cobalt the Aura was better than the old Gen Malibu, the Vue way better than the Equinox, the Outlook competative in the class

Just release them on Chevy and call it a day, having 19340384 split brands is just terrible

It's probably just as well...I think the brand would have just gone away after a few more years on the market with people reluctant to buy them. It's one thing if the company had a seriously good reputation...but it didn't and was obviously struggling under GM (even thought it had a few good cars)...so I don't see how someone could really change things around importing cheap foreign cars....but who knows what could have happened.

Oh I agree, GM should just make one good car at every classification and call it a day
Just too bad about Saturn being at long last capable

Saturn would have been fine if GM didn't suck them into the fold and turn them into another badge. Oh well, my next car is going to be a Ford anyway.

 The current generation Malibu and Equinox are way better than the Aura or Vue, at the very least they're equals. Chevy has the most complete lineup they just need to replace the failed Cobalt and Aveo.

Saturn, in and of itself, was not too bad. But when I test drove one about 10 years ago, I considered it as just too small for me, both in exterior size and interior room. The powertrain was decent then and should be much better now. But they were, and still are, a little on the high side for what you get, price wise.

cobalt is being replaced by the cruze (very very nice car) and the aveo is being replaced by the viva which tbh the jury is still out on.

Yes I get that, the new equinox is built on the current Vue the Malibu is built upon the Aura
Point is Saturn had better vehicles to market BEFORE gm, it doesn't matter GM caught up .

What the hell  you're acting as if GM and Saturn were 2 completely separate entities. GM gave Saturn good products sooner because they knew they were in danger of failing so they had to give them some competitive products so they imported Opel's products and rebadged them as Saturns. Unfortunately, they failed to market those products effectively.

In terms of marketing they are separate entities just as staples and office depot have competing stores across the street from each other but have the same owner.
GM didn't make Saturn cars good Vauxhaul/Opal and Saab did
The engineering and whole concept of Saturn was to be different than GM and then GM got their mitts in in and screwed them over.
Its why I said its sad if they had been left to their own devices as orginally intended who knows.

You're the one that doesn't know the difference. GM is the parent company Saturn, Opel, Chevy, etc. ALL fall under GM. So saying:

GM didn't make Saturn cars good Vauxhaul/Opal and Saab did

Is retarded. Vauxhall IS GM, Opel was GM, Saab was GM. GM made Saturn what it was by using it's other companies to draw from.

It's all about execution. VW seems to do well with all of its brands.
