GM rolls out new Saturn Sky two-seat roadster

Just when I think GM is getting smarter, they do something that I feel is kind of dumb. They are rolling out a car to compete with the new Pontiac Solstice. Didn't they learn their mistake of having cars that compete with each other under different brands? Or, how about they wait until after the Solstice is out for a year to see what the market will bear.

Indeed. Wasn't GM going to give Saturn the hardtop version so as not to compete with the Solstice?

Well, this is GM we're talking about 😉 King of badge engineering to the max 😛

I like the front end from this initial picture, but I'll have to see REAL images before I can say if I truely like it. The Solstice is "ok" in my book. I like the whole RWD platform GM is basing this off.

Depending on its weight/performance specs, this could be my first new car. It all depends on what Mazda puts out for the next generation Miata 🙂

It looks good but just cancel the Saturn line and make this car under a different name. Chevy needs a car like that.

Really, if they are just going to re-badge the Solstice put it under the Chevy badge at least. Saturn needs to go the way of Oldsmobile.

It's odd that they killed Oldsmobile when they actually had the best looking cars in the GM line. At least the Aurora and Intrigue were nice cars. Instead they transferred the Aurora platform to the Pontiac Bonneville and there by uglifying it.

The Intrigue style was quite appealing and unique, it didn't look bloated at all. Most of today's car design is very bloated and blubbly. But I must say, once I'm inside it does drive somewhat like a boat.

The Civic used to have that unique styling as well, but over time with revisions, it now looks like a bloated brick.

The 2005 Accord I do find very eye catching though.

don't sleep on Saturns. When my 2000 Max was in the shop, I rented a 4-banger Saturn and that car handled very well.

this looks very good though.

GM has a bad rep for killing cars that are worth anything (syclone/typhoon, GN, RWD impala, etc.) but keeping the rest of their worthless model line up.

Not bad at all. I used to Autocross my Saturn before I moved onto my Miata.

The Saturn had excessive understeer though... the tires seemed to love to squeal instead of turn. Easy to control and it was a very predictable car to drive, no surprises. Its no ITR, but it is certainly not a bad handling FWD car.
