DETROIT - General Motors Corp. is recalling about 400,000 pickup trucks due to defective brake lights.

The affected vehicles are the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon from the 2004-2006 model years and the 2006 Isuzu i-280 and i-350.

GM said some vehicles may permanently lose brake lamp function or have brake lamps that are always on. On vehicles with cruise control, that function also becomes inoperative.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said the company was not aware of any crashes resulting from the problem.

Dealers will replace the brake lamp switch assembly in the affected vehicles at no charge.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted GM to inquire about the issue after receiving three complaints, and the company issued the recall in response, Adler said.

GM notified NHTSA of the recall in a letter dated Friday.

That's a lot of vehicles. At least for GM it sounds like something simple, just a switch assembly.

And I actually liked the way the Colorado looked too :(

edit: No car in their first year is flawless. Honda, BMW, Ford, anyone always ends up having some issues.

And/or pretend it isn't an issue and make their customers to pay for the repair work.

Explains why I have seen so many with the lights stuck on.

Also explains why No Cruise Control. It is deactivated by the Brake Light circuit.

Those trucks were made in GM Shreveport, LA. I used to work there for a few years.

Even though that's a quick repair it will likely cost GM a LOT of money overall to fix the problem... so many trucks to fix! Lots of labor charges from dealers....

Yeah, isn't it great how that works?

GM issues a recall... "see, they suck!"
Toyota issues a recall... "see, they care about their quality!"
