Owners of some of General Motors Corp.'s most expensive light trucks, including the GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Silverado, say the vehicles they paid more than $30,000 for may be worthless now because of loud, irritating knocking noises in their engines, lawyers tell the Free Press.

If it was that bad it would be covered under lemon law, BUT there was this in the peice....

"Current analysis of 150,000-mile and 300,000-mile engines that have exhibited cold start noise show no significant wear," Read said.

And despite the controversy, GM's trucks got high marks in J.D. Power and Associates' 2003 reliability and dependability surveys. The Silverado, for instance, ranked second in initial quality in the study's full-size pickup category.

But yea GM quality sucks.

Seems to be some conflicting things going on here. I read that as well, but I also heard the video at pistonslap.com and, as any article on the matter will confirm, this is really not good for the engine to be knocking like this long term. I would be upset if my car did that all the time and in fact GM is buying back the cars in some cases and if you put up enough of a fuss.

Hmmm...
Totally unrelated but, our only GM, a Pontiac 6000LE crapped out on us prematurely.

We've gone Nissan and have never looked back :p

LOL, I can't believe he said that.
Roger Smith was a fvcking moron! He was responsible for single handedly almost driving GM into the ground. How that man got to the top of GM, I have no idea!

It will be a BFD if the 2000,V6 Camero in our household starts making the presence of its pistons known..If the integrity of the piston ring to cyl wall alignment is compromised, engine life will suffer. Oil polluting the compressed charge can be a direct cause of "detonation"and its known consiquenses.............
