<< they are part of a series of moves made by Lutz since he joined GM on Sept. 1. He has:

- Streamlined product development to give more power to vehicle line executives and designers and less to brand managers.

- De-emphasized consumer clinics in favor of a faster, gut-instinct approach.

- Steered brand managers from focusing on a single vehicle and toward more traditional marketing functions

Hot damn! Actually let the designers do what they are supposed to do? Who woulda thunk it?

Lutz is the man. He is a car guy. Less than a year into the job he made Saturn redo the fron on their Conv. Car, and helped make the new Pontiac Prototype.

GM has some good things about to happen.

I'm not to clear on what they mean when they say 'brand management system', but in the article they said that the manager's actual responsibilties don't change...just their title.

So how does that make a difference?

but yes, Lutz is the man...

I've been a Ford Diehard ALL MY LIFE. Mustangs, Ford Pickups, Thunderbirds etc etc.

But recently I bought the Olds Intrigue and I've been extremely happy with this vehicle. I'm really looking at GM for my next vehicle. Old loyalties die hard tho. In the early 90's it really looked like Ford could become a decent company again. OH well.

From the article:

<< GM will continue to cut the number of brand managers/marketing directors through attrition, from 40 in 1996 to about 20. GM now has 24. >>

They are trimming the fat.
