They're scared more than anything else because of their tranny disaster. GM PTSD syndrome is very real and people just bail to Toyota or Ford. So they're trying to get customers back. But there's trust issues that a minor oversight or cost-cutting corner leads to yet a ANOTHER rash of GM disasters.

Which vehicle(s) had/have a transmission issue?

Short version is 800k vehicles are affected:

A class action lawsuit against General Motors (GM) is proceeding, alleging defective 8-speed automatic transmissions in certain Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles from the 2015-2019 model years. The lawsuit claims these transmissions, specifically the 8L45 and 8L90 models, exhibit issues like shuddering, hesitation, and harsh shifting, potentially causing safety hazards. GM is accused of knowing about the defects and failing to adequately address them.

Had the same issue with my lemon 2015 Jeep Renegade:

In 2015, Jeep Renegades were involved in a class action lawsuit primarily due to issues with the 9-speed automatic transmission (ZF 9HP) and cooling fan failure. The transmission defects included rough shifting, delayed engagement, and premature wear. Additionally, a cooling fan defect could lead to engine overheating and potential fires.

Everyone rushed this stuff to market in order to stay competitive & boost their government mileage rating, knowing they could just pay off the lawsuits later. The new ones, however, are great! The latest Ford 10-speed automatic is a night & day difference from the awful tractor-esqe version they used in years prior! My takeaway lesson was VERY valuable: never buy first-generation hardware!! lol

Every generation of V8 that Chevy introduced has been legendary. Yet another iteration is great news for hotrodders and for those who still love ICE generally. Still, knocking on the door of a billion dollars to develop yet another pushrod V8, wow. Did not see that coming.

Engine development is expensive. Even moreso if it's a clean sheet design.
