So how's that Government Motors bailout working for you? Obama must like China since he spent all that money so that GM could move their manufacturing there. Give the new management team a bit of time to allow Uncle Sam to sell back his equity stake at a huge loss then they'll really be home free to cut loose the remaining legacy Detroit UAW deadweight.

Where do you see they are going to import complete cars to the US?
Or is that a troll fail on your part?

Better hope we never go to war with china. They already have the technology production. After GM builds more factories, china will have the ability to outproduce us.

GM sells more cars in China than in the US so it is no surprise that they are going to build more manufacturing capacity there. In the not distant future, GM will have more capacity in China than anywhere else in the world. Also, to address the OP's point about GM moving manufacturing out to China, GM already has a lot of components for their cars made in China. Even the engine I believe is made there. I don't think they will start assembling cars there for export but the truth is, american industry has already been hollowed out and outsourced to china.

I thought the OP was elite? The company is growing in China. The cost to manufacture in the US and export to China would make the vehicles too expense in the Chinese market. The vehicles aren't being built for import to the US.

How would having no GM at all work out? This whole "government motors" rant is old and tired.

Why does my "title" matter? I didn't ask for Elite, don't care that that's what I'm listed as, and wouldn't be bothered if I was reverted back to "Lifer" or whatever the term is for someone with my post count.

GM already didn't work out, they did go Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The only thing the federal government bailout did was further entrench the legacy UAW workforce, priviledging them over senior debtholders. As such, they actually lessened the chance of a mananged bankruptcy the next time around, since any debtors won't allow a second haircutting to allow a payoff to labor; thus making a Chapter 7 liquidation more likely.

Just fine for me. Cars are pieces of shit anyways. Another manufacturer would fill the void in a heartbeat. Life without GM would be better for everyone.

I wouldn't mind if GM went to hell too, but how does it feel knowing You paid to bail their ass out, all to leave and stop contributing to our economy and help a foreign enemy's economy instead?

Feels like shit. But as with any bad investment or decision, its better to cut your losses and run rather than suffer the same fate again.

It's all good when it happend under an Democratic adminstration. When it happens under a Republican adminstration it called getting tax credits for shipping jobs overseas. And as Romey found out you get called a liar for exposing it.

Are you telling me you are against letting a company take advantage of the free market? China is where the money and growth is at.

Are you saying we should inhibit their decisions based on your xenophobia?

I think you need some help here. Please post evidence of what jobs GM is cutting in the US and replacing with their investment in China. That would be shipping jobs overseas. Closing plant x and replacing it with plant y in China is shipping jobs overseas. Adding plant y in China and keeping plant x open in the US is investing overseas and not shipping jobs overseas.

At least two GM plants being shut down that I know of:

1. Shreveport, Louisiana
2. Janesville, Wisconsin

GM opens new plants in China because Chinese buy GM cars.

GM closes plants in the USA because you haters don't buy GM cars.

An American company opening production in China is all the proof you need, but if you must have plant for plant comparison.

Maybe GM should make a car worth buying. Lord only knows they had nothing even worth considering in the same segment last time I bought (2009 Honda Fit), and would have nothing comparable to what will be my next car (Toyota Prius V). If I wanted a truck or POS wannabe car like a Camaro then sure, but I don't seem to be in their target demographic.

All I can say is for the last 25 years when I have gone to work every day or gone ot out whatever I have turned the key on a GM product and heard an engine start every time. A friend of mine since the late 90's who has been an avid Ford fan now drives a brand new Silverado.

The OP is a troll with a misleading title. No vehicles are being imported into the US from these plants.

Well sure, as long as nothing made overseas ever comes back to the US. Nothing like that has ever happened before......

This. We've been though this type of thread on this very subject before and it's the same bullshit. Thread title ending is a complete fabrication and the OP won't address those that have mentioned it already.

And that's fine. I've owned plenty of American cars before (1997 Saturn SL 2, 1994 Ford Escort wagon, etc), but they've been totally out of sync from what I was looking for the last 10-15 years or so. When the American makers were in their SUV heyday they sometimes didn't have a single model I'd consider. For example, with my last purchase the GM option was a complete joke (Chevy Aveo, what a piece of shit)
