gm EXTENDS RECALL TO ALL BOLTS DUE TO FIRE RISK

Torn Mind

Lifer

In the above article, a politician's Bolt is pictured toasted.
The Vermont State Police released this photo of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV that caught fire on July 1, 2021 in the driveway of state Rep. Timothy Briglin, a Democrat.
The expansion follows the companies finding that the batteries for these vehicles may have two manufacturing defects — a torn anode tab and folded separator — present in the same battery cell, which increases the risk of fire.

I totally forgot that a Bolt was a type of vehicle. When I read that, I was thinking they used Chinese bolts made of magnesium again.
The all caps got ya by making it ambiguous the noun called the "BOLT".

Besides, it's about time the English language was revolutionized and we ditch capitalization of proper nouns. gm for life. cAPS LOCK INVERSION TIME. gen z, make it so.

It's no coincidence that the Nikola fraud collapsed after it was announced that Nikola had partnered with GM in order to get access to GM's technology.

I think I shall avoid LG products as much as possible from now on. Have had too much of their stuff fail. I guess they have always had a reputation for poor quality and a name change didn't help.

This is what GM should have done from the start. They knew there were issues with the 17'-19' models. Hyundai immediately issued a pack replacement recall for their affected models. My parents just did a GM buyback on their 19' earlier this year. They got enough back to buy a 21' in a higher trim level, but sucks to know it could have the same issue. GM was saying it was only in the korean made packs and the 2020 and later had US made packs. We need more EV options. Bolt is pretty much it for a sub $30k EV

I buy no LG products on purpose in this household. I bought a Kenmore refrigerator and it was rebranded LG. It's had some problems, but hasn't totally failed yet. The ice maker did stop working, but I think it's just a frozen water line.

Yeah....avoid LG for anything you can. The company makes some real crap. I recently bought a new cellphone and could have basically gotten 2-3 LG phones for free....I refused them all.

Seems like it's a matter of you get what you pay for. In order to be affordable, the car maker has to well buy according to budget. Panasonic makes some of the finest stuff but they obviously cost more(Tesla uses them).

Although even for a budget product, to have an entire line of cars put under recall shouldn't be happening. Something like more rapid deterioration of cell life might be acceptable but a fire risk due to normal use(charging to 100) is one of the worst defects to have.

well, there's their line of OLED TVs. That's pretty much the only thing I would praise LG for and consider purchasing, but like Samsung, I avoid any sort of appliance or...eh, anything "not-TV" with those names on it (actually, I'm also done with Samsung TVs--their software in all of their gadgets where they implement their own has always been total garbage).

I would have considered their TVs, but there used to be a restaurant in Hilton Head Island called New York Pizza Kitchen (still there, diff location).... They had maybe 15 or so televisions on the walls....all LGs. They were LED backlit and the light diffusers behind the screen had all popped loose. You couldn't see the picture that well, you just saw individual light orbs. I mean, a dab of super glue would have gone a long way.

That's not the complete issue though. There have been fires where the owners have had the past 'software fixes' that limited the charge level and it still caught fire. Seems to be a combination of draining the battery down pretty low as well.

We are talking about 10 fires over 60k cars in the US, and there are some people that drive the heck out of their bolts with multiple dc fast charges with no issues. So you have no idea if the battery can go to 200k miles or catch on fire next time you plug in

Had to replace an AC condensing unit a few months ago. Compressor windings burnt out. LG compressor

GM has filed a $1 billion lawsuit on LG due to this, it all kinda sucks, I like the bolt overall and was hoping it would do well.
