Yes, the 400-hp engine is standard, but it's not a Northstar derivative. Actually, this V8 is similar in design to the small block found in the Chevy Corvette. A nylon cover with the Cadillac crest and "V" symbol is fitted over the engine as part of the noise reduction package. Cadillac claims the CTS-V will rocket from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.

2004 CADILLAC CTS-V SPECIFICATIONS
Vehicle type: 4/5-seat, 4-door, front-engine, rear wheel-drive, luxury performance sedan
Engine: aluminum 5.7-liter 16-valve V8
Horsepower: 400 @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 390 @ 4800 rpm
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Length: 194.5 in
Height: 58.1 in
Wheelbase: 115.2 in
Curb weight: 3847 lb
Tires: 245/45WR18 Goodyear run-flats
0 to 60 mph: less than 5 seconds (manufacturer's claim)

Bob Lutz has suggested that the CTS-V will have a base price of $37K, and will top out under $50K.

I hate to say it....but the design is actually starting to grow on me

At 37k, that's a lot of function + power.

Nice motor - oogly car... I kept wanting to give the edgy design a chance, but I was driving behind one the other day and couldn't believe how ugly the rear end of it was

I don't like it in white, but I saw a deep maroon color and a dark gray the other day and it did look much better. The darker colors seem to hide the overdone angles a bit better than the lighter colors.

That's a growth that I'd have removed ASAP! Get laser surgery if necessary. :p

I still don't like the design at all, personally.

I agree. At first I kind of hated it, but it started to grow on me.

The styling doesn't look much different from that of the Escalade to me, and people praise that. Where's Moonbeam? :D

I love the new look of Cadillacs... is there anything for $37k in the same class that will outperform that thing?

edit: is this 50,000 or 37,000, ive seen both numbers?

I think it was because the G35 wasn't available in manual at the time.
I would've gladly taken an auto G35 over a 6-speed CTS.

EDIT- Sorry, I meant 5 speed.
I don't care enough to remember details for fugly cars :p

Why is that so surprising? Since their release a year ago, the CTS has outsold the G35 sedan every single month except for one. Most people prefer the sharp CTS styling to the bizarre rice rocket looks of the G35. I was at an auto show earlier on this year, and Infiniti's display had hardly any people while Cadillac's had a crowd as big as Ferrari's. The bigger engine and lower price of the G35 aren't enough to make most people choose it over the CTS. Also, the fit and finish on the G35 are total sh|t. The CTS was available with manual transmission from the start, whereas the G35 wasn't. That was a major turnoff to a lot of enthusiasts.

The gap is only going to grow wider when the CTS gets a 3.6L 255HP engine later this year.

The only 6-spd CTS is the new V-series. I can't imagine picking an auto G35 over the CTS-V :Q.
