* GM unveiled a new Cadillac concept dubbed the ATS, a compact BMW 3 Series fighter that will be available in both coupe and sedan forms.
* The Cadillac DTS' replacement ? currently named the XTS ? will be built atop the Buick LaCrosse's underpinnings and will be available with all-wheel drive.
* The CTS Coupe is due to arrive this May, and there's still talk of a V version (duh). Apparently GM has a working CTS-V SportWagon on premises and it could arrive as early as next year.
* New Chevrolet Malibu unveiled, but it supposed won't reach production until 2012.
* All-new midsize Buick model coming within the next 24 months.

EDIT: G8 IS BACK ON TABLE AS CHEVY!!!
Edit 2: Buick Riviera is slated for production... holy fucking hell

Hmm, a new midsized Buick. I guess that would be a Fusion fighter.

The 2010 Lacrosse is great looking, but they do need something smaller to compete with the Fusion.

ATS should be AWESOME
XTS I dunno, just seems to me that you have great Rear drive platforms and the compact and midsize then go to a seemingly inferior FWD platform (albeit with AWD) for the Flagship Fullsize. could be awesome but I dunno.

interested to see where Cady goes with the escalade, rumor has it its going to be lamda based (like traverse, acadia, enclave, outlook)

I can't see how anybody can be excited by epsilon platform vehicles for Cadillac. GM needs to position Cadillac against BMW and Mercedes, not Audi or Acura. And they sure as hell can't do that by sharing platforms with 2 other brands.

Thumbs up for the Sportwagon V, though. At least they have the CTS lineup to offer something exclusive.

Mike can you repost the article from Autoblog. The site's blocked from work.

Tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM EST, General Motor's President and CEO, Fritz Henderson, will be hosting a webcast to update the public and the media on the automaker's turnaround efforts, during which Henderson is expected to make a new product announcement.

But ahead of tomorrow's shindig, GM is apparently hosting another event involving some of its PR team, around 100 members of the public and a few social media junkies. Tied to their smartphones, some of the attendees have revealed GM's new product plans and here are the tender Twitter morsels:

GM unveiled a new Cadillac concept dubbed the ATS, a compact BMW 3 Series fighter that will be available in both coupe and sedan forms.

The Cadillac DTS' replacement ? currently named the XTS ? will be built atop the Buick LaCrosse's underpinnings and will be available with all-wheel drive.

New Chevrolet Malibu unveiled, but it supposedly won't reach production until 2012.

All-new midsize Buick model coming within the next 24 months.

We'll keep our eye out as more information becomes available, and if you didn't need a reminder, all of this should be taken with the appropriate amount of NaCl until we get official word from GM. Details about GM's webcast available below the fold.

As requested. It doesn't mention the G8 staying around though.

Great platform or not, people buy luxury cars for their perceived exclusivity. By all accounts the epsilon II platform is a great one, but it'll be all of 5 minutes before the "Why buy the Caddie version when I can get the Chevy/Buick version for $XX less?" crap starts from the media.

Look at the uptick in credibility for Cadillac when the first CTS was released. The sharp handling RWD platform got rave reviews in the car rags. It had it's issues, but the sigma lineup (STS and SRX included) did more to Cadillac in the marketplace than anything could have. Now the SRX has reverted backwards to a smaller FWD platform without a V8 and seemingly the DTS and STS replacement will do the same.

The current market leaders are RWD. You can't beat them by aiming low.

correct, but there is no Joe Blow who will ask a salesperson "what platform is this vehicle on, and what other vehicles share this platform?"

dont judge it before it comes out... there will be no way to tell it is the same platform as the Malibu, etc.

Seems like Lutz can't make up his mind on the G8. Flip flopping is definitely not good for a company trying to mend its image since all it does is impair its credibility (whatever is left of it that is). Would be nice to have a little decisiveness in their decisions.
Also announcing cars so early is really stupid of them. Though it's not hard to imagine that it's because Ford is kicking their ass.

I have a feeling it is going to be. Otherwise what platform is it going to be built on? GM doesn't have a small RWD platform that I am aware of that would work at this level. Any ideas?

Everyone is saying the ATS will be RWD and match the 3 series model for model in options... so an ATS-V, an ATS Coupe, ATS Sedan, ATS Wagon,

That would be awesome...but I just don't see this happening soon unless there is a platform in development that I'm not aware of.

Keeping the rumor mill going about their products is definitely good for the company though. If I were GM, I would be making announcements every week just to keep people on their toes and remembering that GM is still around and plans to rule the world whether you like it or not.

That's the image I would give.

I remember reading an article on it the ATS is based on a larger version of the platform that the sky and solctice are based on, with some CTS similarites if I recall. sad thing about the XTS is that they had a reardrive platform in development by holden for it called the DT7 which was canned.

*EDIT*
Alpha Platform:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Alpha_platform

*EDIT*
also I beleave the delta platform car cady is getting is the converj (spelling?) if its made, its based on the volt which is delta

So does Ford and Volvo. And GM and Saab. And Honda and Acura. How many of those, including Audi, would the average Joe put in the same league as BMW and Mercedes? This isn't an issue of quality or performance. It's about public perception.
