In all honesty it's kind of ironic that you posted that about Tesla because they are one of if not the worst company in the automotive space when it comes to owners being able to repair their own vehicles. I think I read a C&D article about it not to long ago and if not mistaken a couple states out east have drafted legislation mandating that automakers make certain things available to car owners. All because of good old world changing and making our lives better TSLA.

Yeah that is true. At the time don't think I realized that or maybe they were not as bad then. Now I don't even know if I would want to own one unless I got it super cheap. They are anti repair and also cloud based. You are always tied to the mothership and they can change stuff on you at will. It's like a phone. What happens when they decide your model is obsolete will it just stop working? I don't like this "connected" crap. unfortunately this is where everything is heading. You will own nothing and be happy. Great reset, agenda 2030 etc. This is what they want.

That said if it was not for Tesla I don't think we would be seeing a big uptake in EVs so they still did pretty good for society in that sense.

I really want a Tesla, but man, their support story scares me right now. My buddy's Model 3 had a BSOD after a software update, had to be towed hours away, and it took weeks for them to fix it. Whereas Ford sold 75k Mustangs in 2018 & there are like 3 repair centers within a short distance from me lol. I'm hoping by the time Tesla's bulletproof monster truck comes out, that story will change. I rely on my car quite a bit for my job & already went through a lemon nightmare with my previous Jeep. Tesla cars are almost like iPhone these days...you can fix very few parts & the ones you can fix are a pain in the neck!

Yeah that's what scares me about most EVs now, they're trying to make them all futuristic and overuse electronics and proprietary software and you're basically on your own if something fails, and they won't provide you any help whatsoever, not even parts or the source code. I just want a regular car, but with an electric drive train. No LCDs and software controlled everything and all that crap. Just regular buttons, no subscription crap, no cloud, no account needed, no keyless stuff (easy to hack) I just want to put the key in the ignition and drive. Just a plain normal car. Even gas cars are going away from this though...

They really want you to just buy a new one in 5-10 years after buying it, it's crazy.

the software issues do sound like a major pain if they happen

i think i'm just going to stick with cheap honda cars forever

almost 10 years on my current one, i think it'll make it to 15 or even 20

Over-engineered software does sound like too good an opportunity for manufacturers for them to pass up. They can maintain complete control over their product, even post-sale. Including 'obsoleting' it when convenient for them.
I guess one can hope for the advent of "jail break" hacks and open-source software replacements?

Yep and I think we will start seeing this more and more in everything we buy, and it will require a subscription/account just to use it. Already seeing it with lot of products these days. All part of the great reset and agenda 2030. You will own nothing and be happy.

I can see it now - no toast for you, your toaster is installing an essential update! You can't open another tin till your tin-opener has played this advert to you!

And you can only used approved bread after you scanned the QR code on the packaging to ensure the bread is genuine. I joke but they literally have juice machines that work that way. Instead of going to the groceries and buying produce to juice, you need to buy pouches from the manufacturer on a subscription bassis, and you have to register the unit, and scan the QR code on the pouch and it will only juice it if everything checks out, such as it being a genuine pouch or not being "expired". I wish I was joking.
