Howzit OT Peeps, it's been 1 long while for me since here :p...so sure go ahead and post your favorite type of glue (plz nothing sic, if you know what I mean ;))...What I'm wanting to know is what would be the best to adhere cloth material to fiberglass or the alike as I need something to beat gravity on Custom Headliners for cars...I've heard that 3M makes a good aerosol but am leaning to-wards brushing on Contact cement...anyhing else for stickems? TIA

Hmm.... I'm not sure.

What are you supposed to use to put up headliners?

Never done a headliner. The tall 3M can comes w/different nozzles to control the spray pattern. Very few stringy bits in the air. I've used it on both surfaces, gets tacky then put it on one time. I've only done door panels and under hood insulation. If your not going to cover the whole surface, a hot glue gun might work.

Head liners are tough to got just right. The only site I know off hand is.
www.eastwoodco.com and not much interior stuff there, sorry..................

3M spraymount is amazing stuff.

I used it once to attach alum. foil to paper . . . and lemme tell you . . . . metal foil, paper, didn't think it would work. But it did.

If you sprayed it on your shoes, you couldn't walk on the ceiling, but you could stand on it.

They sell kits with spray adhesive but the material has foam backing and light...I want/need something stronger to support felt/flannel/satin material.

early bump for the Glue freaks ;)

My old tercel had a sagging roof, the 3M stuff lasted a couple of months but it lost its tack after a couple of humid days. How thick is the cloth material you are using? Maybe visit a local custom shop and see what they recommend/use

I've done headliners before with the 3M spray glue. The problem that I had is that the cardboard backing that the fabric is attached to was falling apart. Then the glue just pulls away more of that cardboard stuff... it is a never ending cycle.

I had a friend that had a lot of success with a stapler! He just stapled the cloth back on and it worked great!! Lasted longer than my glue!

No Pro here either but from what I understand the Headliner will not adhere unless it's new with foam backing as trying to re-glue old stuff that has lost it's backing is futile. I have heavier new material but it had some kinna backing and am leaning towards brushing on Contact cement

This is a bump if nothing else.

I went to 3M.com and they have spray and tube contact glue. Brushing contact cement on tends to tear at your material as its applied and starts to set-up.

If one object is porous, apply, let it dry, then reapply before installation. This really helps.

I'm in So Cal, most body and trim shops close at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Why not call a couple of them in the early AM and hear what they have to say............:sun:

The implication was not that they would know more, only that most of these suppliers close early on Saturday. Honda may suggest a trip to a dealer. Your local supplier MAY offer you a viable solution..............
