Glue and my 1080 AMG... question please

Antec sent me usb 2.0 front ports, but the clip on the case, while intact, does not hold them tightly. there was a glob of glue holding it in..

My question is, is this hot glue tyupical of a hobby gun? Would something like that be OK to use?

Probably was hot glue. I don't see why regular hot glue wouldn't work. Just make sure you get any dust or dirt off there before you try gluing it.

Obviously, the glue on mine wasn't good enough because the whole panel fell into the case and now I can't get it out. Oh well =)

Its pretty easy to get at... y ou have to take both side panels off, and then the fron panel. There are 3 tabs on each side of the fron panel that need to be released. they are a little tricky to find, but once youve got them its easy to do it again

Hey Johnbear, how are the included fans in that case working out for you. Are they pretty quiet, or should I consider upgrading the fans before I build? Also, if you know, how powerful are they, say like in a CFM rating?

I don't know how powerful they are exactly, but I think a good guess would be somewhere roughly between 28 - 32 CFM. About standard for a 80MM fan. They are good fans, no need replace them unless you were looking to build a silent PC or something. If you wanted a really silent PC you could replace them with panaflo L1a's

I use the ones that came with it, but I reversed the side fan so it is an intake which I think is better, because it is positioned right over your vid card (make sure you buy an 80mm fan filter to put inbetween the fan and the cas though, because it will attract alot of dust)

I have all of the fan slots filled with 80 MM fans. the 3 antecs that came with the case and then I added 2 more LED fans that work nicely.

I dont use the special fan connectors so I can't comment on that. I am more concerned with cooling than noise because I don;t sleep in the same room as my system and the sound of fans does not bother me.

However if you are looking to do a silent case look into the L1A's they are pretty darn quiet, but even with those, if you have 5 you will still here them a little.

Overall I think it'a a really superb case and the front removable filter is a great feature. All in all it is probably the best component purchase I have ever made, you should be happy with it.

Also, on one more not, if you do want to go the silent PC route, I would make sure to get an L1A for your processor as well, depending on what heatsink you are using.

What processor are you putting in there and what cooler?

I have the same case... When I ordered it, I ordered 5 Antec Blue LED fans to go with it for $50 (rip OFF). Never even turned on the stock case fans, ripped them out when the case arrived. After about 2 or 3 months I couldn't stand the noise anymore, I've become a quiet PC nut. Took out all the Antecs, replaced them w/ L1As (another $50.) Zalman 7000Cu HSF, Zalman Passive NB Heatsink, Zalman ZM80-C Video heatpipe, and a Zalman 400w PS fedexing it's way to me right now.

I'd say at it's present level, with 3 L1As (2 more on the way) and the above mentioned hardware, it's pretty quiet. The loudest part is the 400w ISO power supply... and after that it should be the hard drives. I was shocked to see this case ranked as the best case for silent computing on Silent PC Review.

Just thought I'd throw in my bit about silent computing w/ this case.

I'm going to be putting a P4 2.4C chip in it. I was debating on either going with stock cooling (I've heard the newer version of the stock cooler is pretty good, but I don't know if it's packaged with the 2.4) or the Zalman 7000 AL-CU (for the weight instead of the all copper).

As for quiet, I was actually probably going to go with better cooling over quieter. I had taken a look at some Sunon 80mm 42 CFM fans, because they are supposedly quiet, for the front of the case. I will probably go with two of those then for the front, and just keep the stock ones for the side and exhaust. That's a good heads up about the side fan being exhaust from the factory, I would have thought it was the other way around. I will definitely get a filter for the side as well. One of the selling points for the case for me was indeed the washable filter that comes on the front of the case.

Thanks for your quick reply and the bonus info.

Thats interesting, I dont find it THAT loud, but I agree it isnt quiet. You are right about the antec LED fans for 10$ a piece are a HUGE ripoff. You can get generic LED fans from svc for 2$ or evercools for 6 (I like the evercools) but the 2$ ones work just as well!

I love L1a's, but I just dont care enough about noise to invest that much into it. Plus I want the ANTEC Psu

no prob, gald I could help with the info.

As far as the cooler goes I would consider the Thermalright 900U
svc

That way you can pop a 92 MM fan on it and get the same CFM with quieter operation. I bougth a Zalman (not here yet so cant comment) That you can change voltage with an included adapter (inline) for 20DBA and 38CFM or 36DB and 53 CFM and its only 6$

I dont use a P4, but I have heard the stock coolers are good, so you may want to just wait and see how the stock cooler works out for you and then decide

Yeah, I got the SVC LED fans for my AMD machine when I built it, and they were quieter than the Antecs, and felt like they pushed more air. Really miffed me. My next decision will be whether or not to replace my WD800JBs for being too loud. But I hear the alternatives aren't really THAT much quieter... not enough to be worth the difference, anyways.

I wouldnt mess with that personally. I think the 800JB's are pretty quiet personally, but I went from an old IBM 7200 rpm from when 7200 rpm was new and that thing was LOUD. I think rather than replacing the drives, I would get drive silencers.. im sure you can find them on SVC or somewhere, that mount in a 5 1/4 drive bay and incorporate cooling and silencing. Depending on how many bays you have open.

I already have two Coolermaster 11s... Big aluminum HD enclosures that go in your 5.5 bays. Has a big thermal pad, as well as a blue LED fan up front. But the fan is small and whiney, so that kinda defeats the purpose.

Yeah, I have seen setups that are supposeduly totally quiet, but havent looked into it for quite some time
