Glossy monitors?

I love the look of graphics on the new iMacs with the glossy display and was wondering if there is a good 19 inch monitor with that same glossy cover for sale. Thanks.

The 90GX2 has the coating and is a pretty good option. I think it may be the only 19" one still in circulation. There are also a handful of 20" and 22" monitors that have it.

Well i am not sure which new MacBook you are talking about but if it is the newest MacBook Pro w/ Glossy screen you have to remember that this screen is also has LED backlights which "sounds" like it would make a huge difference in color also. I said "sounds" because i have not read about it nor seen it in person. So you might not want to put all your money into a glossy screen if it is the LED back lights you really like.. you know what i mean?

Not the Macbooks but the new all in one iMacs that were recently released. The 90GX2 looks nice and the price is good. Any widescreen displays among the 20"?

Glossy displays are indeed awesome 🙂
Most people are blind to that fact though sadly 😉

There is no doubt in my mind that a glossy screen produces a much better picture. It enhances the contrast levels significantly. But a lot of people do not like the glare that comes with them.

Personally, I prefer glossy screens. I can put up with a little glare for a much better picture.

I look the glossy screen on my dell laptop. There are occasions where the glare is noticable, but by and large, the glossy cover does make everything seem more vivid and is a visual improvement.

I laso have a plasma TV, and the glossy screen there is annoying, reflecting the built-in lighting I have in the ceiling, if you sit in the wrong place.

Thanks for the monitor info. Is there something I should look for that tells me if a monitor has a glossy surface?

Its not better, its just nicer to look at but it can actually create some nightmarish problems for designers since glossy screens saturate the colors and makes them look good but they are inaccurately. And then there's the glare.

That being said, for an average user and a gamer, a glossy screen IS the absolute way to go, things look nicer and the glare shouldn't be a problem, or at least not a problem you can't easily solve.

god I wish someone comes up with a way to convert matte-finished LCDs to give them a glossy look (e.g. contrast improvement).
Being to wishful? I guess so 😀

Nope, your not the only one. Glossy screens are nicer to look at in ideal lighting only. And I can't stand glare. I might be an exception however, as I like to sit out on my deck with my lappy occasionally, and even without a glossy screen, I have to arrange how I sit to avoid glare. I have worked on some clients laptops with the glossy screens. Again, very nice aesthetically, but I always needed to close the blinds or turn in a position to avoid glare.

I honestly don't know how some folks do not mind the glare from glossy screens, or what possesses them to accept it. To each his own.

I'm the same way with CRT's and Tube TV's btw. Too much glare.
