G'Lord! What is going on? Computer beeping like its on crack, keyboard won't work...

So I had a big weekend of lan partying (kicked some arse in halo, I must add). I get all my stuff home yesterday, plug it all in, and when I turn on my computer it boots and posts fine. Then as soon as WinXP fires up, the computer starts beeping. Really really fast, say at about 160bpm. Think Lars on the double bass drum (ok... not that fast, but close). I have the post lights installed, and all of them are lit. And to make things worse, my keyboard won't work! Then I move my mouse over to my log in icon, click on it, and the beeping stops, but guess what... it doesn't log me into winblows, it keeps me at the login screen (minus the god awful beeping). I have checked all connections making sure they are tight, etc., does anyone know what sort of problem this is?

Check that your keyboard's in the purple port and not the green one, if it's a PS/2 keyboard. 🙂

I would find another mouse and keyboard and try them. If they don't work try playing with the keyboard and mouse in BIOS by changing the settings and not saving them. This would confirm your KM work on the computer but windows might not see them. Come back when you're done with that and let us know the results.

But would that be cause of not allowing me to boot into windows? I would think not, just because technically you don't need both the keyboard and the mouse to do it. But I will try that right away to see if it works, thanks for the advice.

Its possible that its a stuck down key on the keyboard. Try swapping out the keyboard to a known working one.

I was thinking that or a bent PS/2 pin in the plug.
