Globat's automatic renewal policy

My hosting account with Globat was recently automatically renewed without my knowledge. I tried contacting customer support, but they said it is stated in their TOS that unless you notify them 30 days in advance, they will automatically renew your hosting account. I wasn't even aware that my credit card information was being stored on their database--I would never do such an insecure thing.

Are there any kind of rules/regulations for web hosting companies (ie. like ICANN for domain registrars) that require them to notify you before your account is renewed?

Edit:
I forgot to mention they flooded my e-mail box constantly with promotions and whatnot, and not ONCE about anything useful dealing with my account...

Well, I know that NOW... but is there anything that I can do about the charge? Or file a complaint against them somewhere?

I've never had an account anywhere that didn't at least give me the option of renewing automatically, setting a termination date, or SOMETHING.

Not to mention that option of NOT storing your credit card on their database...

I would recommend posting that question here.

A little off topic for this thread, but I searched Canaca.com on there, and found a guy complaining about service. He claimed they just shut his site off and deleted it, turns out there was a minor problem on their end, they fixed it, he kept submitting tickets yelling at them without telling them what the problem was, they got sick of it and deleted all of his account info and his site. Funny as hell 🙂
