Globalwin FOP38 + 80mm fan

Hi. I remember reading an article about doing a minor mod to a FOP38 so that you could use an 80mm fan.. probably on this site but I don't remember where it is, does anyone know where it is? Also, the 80mm fan I will be using is the kind which is suited for the power supply. There's a red and black wire on it. Would I be able to solder those wires onto a regular 3 pin-female fan connector? And would it be possible to add an extra wire (blue I'm thinking..) so that my mobo could monitor the RPM's the fan is making? Thanks.

I believe you probably read that over at Hardware Central. Do a search there. I think Jollyroger wrote the Mod. I tried it with a Sunon and found I did not like the reduction in cooling. A little too much.

I modded my delta with an L-pad instead and I think that works much better. I can supply a link to that if you want. It is on this forum.

Ok. I found the article for you. Fop38 Mod
If you want a link to my mod instead just let me know.

Gizzo's method will work or you can just clip it on to the Grill of the fan if you have one and you don't want to bend the clip. In Gizzo's link they had not tried it out yet. I have and found it did not cool adequately for overclocking.

I would mod the delta instead but experimenting is always fun. Just be careful with that core since the clip on the FOP is the s***s.
