Absolutely no idea why GF would want that Fishkill fab (and I do mean that specific fab and all that would come with the acquisition)...I'd give this as much chance of happening as Nvidia buying AMD. GF can achieve all the same objectives but do it on their own terms by building out their existing NY fab plans.

Well, one of the primary issues people cite with GF competing with TSMC is a lack of capacity, an extra fab quickly wouldn't hurt.
They might be able to develop some sort of synergy between the two fabs.
And if IBM is actually shopping their fab business around, that's a lot of expertise that I'm sure GF would rather acquire than let go to a competitor.
