Every time I close microsoft word I get the message "windows cannot save changes to the global template because it was opened with read-only access". How can I set it to not try to save on exit or get it to open the template with full access? Thanks

Not sure why Word is trying to change the global template, but I believe the global template (the basic blank page) is called default.dot. Maybe removing the read-only flag will help.

Do a search for a file called normat.dot and delete any that you find. The next time you start Word, it will be created again and should solve the problem. That file can cause a stack-load of problems when it gets corrupt. I've seen it crash machines, cause lockups, stop printing, you name it.
