I wonder if ATI is going to use GF for new GPUs, if TSMC is still having issues with 40nm, imagine what ATI could do with 28nm!

28nm was supposed to be for bulk silicon. so this is more chipsets, and video cards, and "other customers" than the special sauce the cpus need.

it could probably be used for something like bobcat though that doesnt need to run super fast.

but, and this is a big but - if ATi/AMD was preparing for this, couldn't they have their new arch due later this year on this new node? or more practically i suppose, the rehash of the current cards on this new tech in preparation for Fermi?

Is it feasible to transition the 5xxx type chips to another fab? What kind of problems/redesigns/whatever would it entail? Or, would this require a complete new design?

28nm... geez. Seems like not all that long ago I remember reading about K6-2's being built on 250nm.

Isnt AMD selling their stake in GF? I could see Nvidia utilizing this for the next revision of Fermi.

I thought nVidia wasn't going to deal with GF. I think I read that somewhere in this section before.

I'm betting it will be years before we see GF making GPUs, if ever.

I am betting your a complete ----- I think we will see it late this year or early next . But maybe even sooner than late Since there is that Wafer my reasoning trumps yours . What are you basing your reasonning on exactly . Because your record speaks for itself. Your batting Zero and about to be removed from the game.

NV says what is most advantageous for it to say at the time, knowing that with the exception of a small subset of its customers no one will remember anything that their spokes-people say or do 6 months out.

NV is making its cards with TSMC? NV will say nice things about TSMC while crapping on the competition. Things change and suddenly GF is AMD free then NV will start low level talks and shout "We're utilizing cutting edge 28nm tech from one of the premier Fab companies in the biz!"

And you know what? Good for them!

GF actually is amd free now. after the 1.25 billion dollar intel settlement, AMDand intel changed the terms of their agreement so amd no longer has to have any control of who fabs their chips and they will be selling their stake in GF to the arab consortium.
