Regarding the relationships, there were two that I really liked. First, the mayor & the kid. I thought he was going to turn out to be a crazy drunk murderer or something & the kid was going to bolt, but I've really enjoyed how well they work together. They have really good chemistry. Second, when Kate drives over to Sarah's house & forces James to explain everything. That whole sequence of her finding out & then having to deal with it, and then finding out where her husband had been was just fantastic. Especially the part where James flips out & says "I've done nothing wrong, none of us have done anything wrong!" It was such a believable scene because really, what in the world would you do in that situation? You've moved on, you're having a baby, but your first wife is now back & you love them both. What a pickle! And oh my gosh, the last episode when James finds out that Sarah died during childbirth...SHE'S ONE OF THEM NOW!!! I love all of the eyes_widen.exe scenes like that, haha. Oh yeah, and the part where Kirstie confronts her boyfriend, realizes he's not her killer, but he's just crushed with how life has treated him since she died & can't take it and leaves...ah man!
I started re-watching the first episode last night, and in the intro scene, I believe it's the doctor's Volvo that bails out of the cemetery when the kid bikes in. I actually kind of love that they haven't answered the question of what's really happening. So far, my guess is that because she died 4 years ago, she is trying to replicate what happened to her by raising the dead & doing experiments on them. But why can she cross the bridges, but not the others? And who was that guy who came to collect Vic's blood sample on the bridge? And who was Vic possessed by? She said the pharma company worked for her, not the other way around, so it sounds like she's using them, and based on that guy picking up samples, they have some nefarious stuff going on as well. Resurrected Vic seems like he (1) knows everyone's stories (and exactly what buttons to push), and (2) has some sort of stake in returning everyone to their dead state...like, is he the ghost of a researcher at the pharma company or something? Haha. It's weird, but so far they've had good explanations for everything, so I'm sure they'll come up with something interesting to explain all this.
I haven't figured out what the significance of Chris the cop's olive oil is yet. They've made it a point a couple times to have characters interact with the bottles (Vic & Sarah) & to keep it in the background shots. I suspect Chris has something going on. At first, I thought he had killed Kate...because everyone who died so far was killed: hung, car accident, murdered, etc. Unless "died of natural causes" such as old age or cancer is in the cards, then somebody killed Kate. Maybe Sarah did it to move in on James & end Kate's suffering, although she doesn't seem like the type. But then I thought, maybe Chris has the tattoo that Kirstie saw on her killer's arm. Chris is a significant enough character that he keeps recurring in the show & also has a unique thing (the homemade olive oil) going on, so it will be interesting to see what his role is in all of this.
Australian Ryan Reynolds does a good sad face, haha. That's actually what sells a lot of the scenes, like the scene where he first sees Kate...he has a very genuine reaction that makes you buy the story. I also like that he's pretty level-headed, because with a lot of the stuff going on, I would nope the heck out of there lol. So he provides a pretty stable perspective on the whole thing. One of the only things I don't like about this show is how much of a pushover he is...he'll tell someone no, they'll argue with a valid point (or even a semi-valid point), and he'll immediately cave. I feel like he should take just a second or two to think it through & weigh the decision to make it more believable, but it's just kind of a snap flip-flop. Minor thing tho.
I like how they do the flashbacks, especially with the match frame stuff, like when Carlo drops the knife, reaches down, and all of a sudden there's blood everywhere & he's back in his memory of his brother trying to commit suicide...and then he snaps back to the present & is holding the knife with a glazed-over look in his eyes. Plus the little details, like how he tried to escape the prison, got shot in the back, and when he disintegrated on the bridge, Vic found the bullet...good details! I am curious about the name "Glitch", because they haven't addressed it & the name doesn't seem relevant at all to the story. I think it's going to loop back to the pharma company at some point...maybe the doctor was the glitch in the program or something, who knows?
