Glenn Miller

So I thought I was buying a Nice Glenn Miller CD set the other day, and it is in FING MONO:|

Honestly, it sound very good as they are original recordings, but alas, I am looking for other orchestras playing his stuff....so I can really blast it🙁

I am listening to a modern recording of "sing, Sing, Sing" played by who know, from some Mp3, and it is ..Well WOW!

ANyone know of any Good Glenn Miller albums..IN STEREO?

I jsut Got Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" and am VERY happy with it😀

It's going to be very difficult to find in stereo I think. Most people don't blast Glenn Miller so there's not much market to justify the expense of re-recording material that exists already in music companies' vaults.

Thanks.

I am not looking for Cds where he is the conductor or anything. Just Cds with his songs.

Obviously Miles Davis is an exception, but I would accept another orchestra as I would not standing in for Davis or his Saxophonist.

Remember it wasn't until '58 when Stereo LPs came out.

That looks fantastic. Expensive as all hell. Maybe I'll try half or efaly.

Know of any EXCEPTIONAL recordings?

RCA Victor is great..let me check to see if they have it

this is the one i have. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000003G5I/qid=1074913881/

only major gripe is the homorific cover. dont' have to watch him while listening so i can deal with it. i've only heard mono old recordings and this, so i dunno if its exceptional, its pretty good.

Bump for a very cool thread. 🙂 I'd say that 90% of AT members don't know who Glenn Miller was WITHOUT Googling on him. 😛 Nice thread.

For the record, I'm mid-30's, so obviously he was before my time. But my parents (in their 70's) listen to him and those from that era a whole bunch) it is real music, played by real musicians, enjoyed and danced to by real people.

When I see those black & white movies from the WWII era, I get all misty-eyed. 😱

Sadly, there are many tremendous jazz and classical recordings rotting away in music industry vaults. They refuse to re-release the material, simply because it wouldn't be as profitable as the newest POS Britney Spears album. Nor will they sell the rights to companies (like Pablo) who specialize in the production of jazz albums. The monopoly that exists in music is unbelievable.

And people wonder why the trading of mp3s exists at such a pervasive level...

I'm quite familiar with Glenn Miller, thanks. 😛 I'm a young 'un but I sure act like a curmudgeon. 😉 😛
